Client basically "resetting itself" occasionally

So basically, I would fire up Plex on my Xbox one, it would ask me to link to my account. I do that, and it then asks me to customize my media and then everything works fine after that. Kinda inconvenient and has been going on for a while now.

I’ve been having this problem with the Xbox One app for a couple of years now, lately about once a week. Somehow HBO Go, Hulu, and dozens of other apps and games retain all my settings, but Plex has to be re-linked and reconfigured every time. Reports of this issue go back years, with no fix in sight.

Same here. I moved a few months ago and had to reset my router back to default settings. I didn’t have this issue once until I updated the router firmware, now it does it again. I thought maybe it’s the Xbox changing IP addresses, so I set a static IP to see if the issue stops. It’s been a couple weeks so far, so fingers crossed.

A wipe and re-install of the Plex app should fix the issue.

Plex Tech Support gave me these recommendations (so far so good):

  1. Uninstall the Plex app
  2. Power down the console
  3. Physically unplug the console power for 5 minutes (which allows the charge to dissipate and cache to clear)
  4. Power up the console
  5. Install the Plex app fresh from the store
