Server Version#: 4.157.0
My office TV Roku stick wouldn’t connect to my macOS server, so I spent a ton of time trying to make it work. Then I checked my Apple TV (TV #2) and my LG TV #3 with the LG app and neither of them would connect either. Until very recently they’ve been working fine.
The server application showed was “Not responding” on my computer (A HA!) so I restarted it…twice. Still not connecting.
note: All three TVs are connected via WiFi but other apps (YouTube TV) are working just fine so it’s not the connection, at least the top level obvious part.
Note 1: The web app I use to manage the server is working fine. I can watch anything on my computer.
Note 2: I tried some remote setting fixes for a friend, but reasonably confident that these were not the cause as they have worked fine since.
Hints on where to look next would be greatly appreciated.
I understand there is a relatively new(-ish) setting in MacOS, which controls the access permission of each single app to the local network.
If you want your local Plex client devices to have unfettered access to the server, you need to allow this.
Thanks…
- I haven’t updated my OS in a while so this should not have changed.
- I wouldn’t have a clue what setting that is. Besides, I suspect that such a setting would be for apps on the computer, not apps/devices that are external to the computer.
Anyone have a clue what setting he’s referring to, please chime in
Re: 2) The “app on your computer” would be the Plex Media Server.
Nope. Didn’t help. The server HAD no issue seeing my library because I could watch anything I wanted from my computer. It’s the TVs that can’t see anything. But I changed the setting anyway. They still don’t see the server.
BTW, that setting lets the server see the files, not external applications or devices to see the server. Personally I think something changed in the server settings, but I wouldn’t have a clue what.
Next up…??
