Can't access Media Library from iOS/Roku/Apple TV Devices

Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Player Version#:

Sometime within the last 4-6 weeks, I have lost the ability to connect with my Plex Media Server from either Roku, iOS, or Apple TV devices. I am able to play the movies from my library (on an external drive) just fine on the MacBook that the Plex Media Server is installed on. When trying to load it on my iPad, for example, the Movies, and TV Shows libraries are grayed out.

I have had this working before. To try and get it working again, I have:

  • Uninstalled and Reinstalled the Media Server
  • Uninstalled and Reinstalled the apps for Roku and iOS.
  • Upgraded to latest Media Server version (it was a minor upgrade).
  • Changed Secure Connections under Network from “Preferred” to “Required” and back.
  • Unlinked and relinked my account.
  • Claimed my server.

I have the Lifetime Plex Pass… not sure that matters, but it seems the problems started happening within a week or two after purchasing.

Looks like you server was getting rate limited trying to get a cert. I reset it for you. You might need to restart your server.

Many thanks! That seems to have done the trick.

I may have jumped the gun. It seems my iOS devices are working, but I’m still getting “Server is currently unavailable” on my Roku and Apple TV Devices. Any ideas?

And now the iOS apps don’t work again either. I restarted my Plex Media Server after signing out of the Roku to see if that helped, and now nothing can connect again. What the heck.

And now this! First I can’t play the files with my Apple TV since the update from about 4 weeks ago. So I figured I can use the app on my TV instead and now I can’t even access my library AT ALL.
Plex have worked flawless for me for years but 2023 is where everything changed.

Just updated Plex Media Server to 1.31.0.6654 and no change.

Reaching the library from my PC work though, so yet another IOS issue it seems.

Can you share your server logs

Thanks again for the help (and patience!)

@helbnt can you stop the server from running. then delete this file cert-v2.p12 that is in ~/Library/Caches/PlexMediaServer/cert-v2.p12 then reboot computer and then start up server again.

@evensteven_swe on windows it would be in the pms folder in appdata

I think your servers are not getting a new cert now because it thinks it has a valid one cached.

Likely i have the same problem. For years it was fine just now, im unable to use my Plex anymore. Playing from PC works just fine, but from TV not :frowning: Here are attached logs - trick with removing cert-v2.p12 did nothing  but new cert was created for sure.
Logs could not be uploaded for some reason (6MB size maybe?) so available from here:

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this did not work. Still unable to access the Library from either iOS device or Roku

Same for me, found the file deleted it and restarted. No change. Just for show.

No access from anywhere on any device other than my PC.

Questions.

If you have Remote Access enabled does it show connected successfully in server settings?

Is your “Preferred Network Interface” set on the default “Any” or something else?

Remote Access is not enabled.

Set to Any.

Hi,

Remote Access does not work, I can enable it but it switches off. I don’t use this feature though and it hasn’t been an issue that has affected my ability to watch videos otherwise.

I switched from Any to a fixed IP and was able to see my library for a while and then back to Any. Seems to work so-so, but I have never changed this setting before so this can’t be an issue either. This problem is primarily on my Apple TV (which haven’t worked the since update from 8.12 to 8.13) which is why I hoped the app on my Samsung TV would but now this won’t even work.

I changed nothing, it worked until it didn’t so something have changed somewhere else right?

Can you get the Apple TV logs and the server logs covering same time. i want to see how the Apple TV is trying to connect is at all.

It’s so weird, like I said. I changed now and still haven’t and it just magically works. That is finding the library, so I can’t recreate the error as of now. But if happens tomorrow or so I’ll make sure to send those logs.

Now if only the other issue with Apple TV could be solved everything will be great!

I have tried some other tweaking, still no luck. I have even tried loading in browser directly https://app.plex.tv/tv-vidaa - seems to be same error. Can you please fix that? We are just trying to load our local media, we dont need the app to connect to cloud for whatever reason… It’s rather frustrating. Were provided logs by me useful? Should i send something else?

@mar19474 are you just using a vidaa tv? Do you use a iOS or android you can get the logs from?

If local you can try entering the IPs of the devices in the servers Network settings IPs allowed without auth, and/or change the secure connection settings in app to allowed to fall back to insecure on local network
