Here’s the deal, I have a plex server running on unraid in my basement. Plex is THE BEST. So I talked one of my co-workers into setting up a plex server at this place. We are now sharing our plex servers with each other which is great but…We fire up plex to see if there is something good to watch and we forgot 99% of the time if there is nothing good on my server, to check his server. So we almost never utilize the sharing.
Then I thought, wouldn’t it by nice if I could just go into my server settings, and edit my movie library to "also include " That way I could just hit on movies, and see all of the movies in both of our libraries at the same time.
I am sure some people would like to keep things separate but I think the option would be amazing!! I am actually quite surprised this has not been added yet. Is there some technical limitation I am not thinking about on this? Or would this be a completely useless feature and I am just thinking out of left field somwhere?

Couldn’t you just edit your movie library and under add folders you add the other server’s movie files location?

This is a share… so the folders dont reside on his network… so no, this won’t work.
If the servers were in the same network sure but without a VPN setup between the two different locations there would be no way to connect to it right? Not in front of my server now.
There is currently no way to merge these two libraries.
I know that there currently is not a way. I am just saying wouldn’t that be nice? Just seeing if other people would like that feature as well. Not sure how it works but I imagine if there is enough interest the dev team would look at adding it in.
The ability to show two (or more) servers in on deck and other “hubs” is clearly possible. In fact there is at least one old client (RARflix on Roku) that does it quite well. However Plex chooses to force users with access to multiple servers to switch servers rather than just displaying them all at once. (This should probably be a user selectable option)
Again I guess Plex assumes that their users are too stupid or too lazy to make this decision so Plex simply chooses to not allow any decision at all.
Plex says that choices beyond the minimum over complicates the code and therefore over taxes the programming resources but I do not buy that. I think Plex does not want choices because they want everyone to consume their media in exactly the same way. Why they want that I don’t know but it is clear that Plex only gives the user choices when Plex has to and since this is an area where they don’t “have to” you can bet they never will.
