My video collection counter keeps going down. I added 30 movies to a collection. It dropped to 26 and now 11. ??? Does this have to do with Plex messing with my meta data? I notice the always spinning at top. I want to Plex to keep hands off my meta data. Thanks!
I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re experiencing…
Is this about the number of items in your library or the items assigned to a collection?
The activity displayed on your screenshot does not modify any metadata.
I manually add 30 movies to a collection. Don’t touch a thing. It drops to 26 - then 11 - now 4. The 30 movie collection is now a 4 movie collection. 
Are the items still in your library?
Is your server configured to automatically or periodically scan your library files in combination with automatic emptying the trash after every scan? If there’s an issue that’s causing your media drive(s) to be temporarily off during an automatic scan, this can result in Plex dropping items from your library… if they’re subsequently scanned and re-added, any manual changes (like collection assignments) will be lost… disabling automatically emptying the trash should prevent this in such a situation

Okay disabled that. The items are still there. What I have done for now is made the folder read only and so far the collection is intact. (Previously it would diminish within an hour). Not a fix but will be interesting to see if anything changes. Thanks for your help Tom.
That won’t help at all.
The info which items are in a collection is not written into the media folder and/or the media files themselves.
