Collection function in music library

Hi

I’d like to group certain albums into a collection in the music library. Is there an option to hide items in a collection like there is on the movie library as I can’t see the option in settings

Thanks

Iain

Collections in a music library haven’t been implemented yet.
Currently you can only sensibly use the collection tag on an album or artist in conjunction with a collection of video items. (e.g. thus tying a movie and it’s sound track together)

Thanks for the quick reply. That’s a shame as collections looked like a good way to tidy up my music library. Is implementation in the pipeline or is that a closely guarded secret?

There is support for collections in music libraries.

However, hiding the ‘musical members’ of a collection from the full music library is not supported. And I can’t see a strong support for that.
What would be your use case for such an ability?

I had three main uses to group albums

  1. To create a collection for a series of albums such as the Bob Dylan bootleg series or the Neil Young archive serie - I’d want the collection to show up with an artists other albums

  2. For deluxe editions I create one they for the original album and a second entry for the extras - it would be good to combine these in a collection

  3. I have a number of Springsteen official bootlegs - I currently have a separate artist entry for these albums but it would be good to create an ‘official bootleg’ collection which could be contained within the main artist entry.

All of these require the hide function to achieve the goal of tidying up the music library and also allow collection artwork and reviews

Cheers

Iain

Ah, so for the serious collector, mainly to reduce the number of albums shown at once.
I’d like that as well for some of my artists.

Exactly - to me it is the same reason as grouping films - to keep the main pages clean

I would have thought this was a relatively easy implementation as the hide function already exists for films.

I suppose the issue would be that for films the collection data exists for in TMDB but wouldn’t exist in the same way for music so use of the function would be manual only.

That doesn’t worry me as I entered all my movie collections manually but may be a concern for others.

This is a feature I would love to see in Plex, I’m kind of surprised it wasn’t implemented with the inline collection improvements.

For my example: I wanted to create a Christmas compilation collection-- much like the curated playlists on streaming services. The problem with this is that the albums of all those single tracks now populate my main library, and make it difficult to browse. The same thing happens when applying an Album Artist tag, it still separates all the grouped albums in the library. Hiding the collection items would remove this problem.

I could work around this by tagging all the songs to be under the same album, but what if I want to find a specific song’s album again later? If it was in the collection I could easily find it that way.

I could also make a new library to hold all my compilations, but that’s slowing down functionality.

I don’t know. It could be a waste of development time, but I’m sure you’d find many users who would make good work of this idea; Especially EDM users with huge playlists ;).
