I would like to create a collection with only certain episodes of a series (Tatort (german crime series) with a certain officer). It seems, that I can not assign a collection tag to an episode, only to a series - is this correct?
If yes, is there a way around, so that I can see all episodes with a certain officer? I can searcg for it, but I would like to not having to search each time.
Any suggestions?
Guess you could search for the actor in a custom filter then select the episodes you want and add to playlist. Not exactly a collection…
Yes - they would be an option. Haven’t thought about abusing playlists.
So there is no way of creating smart collections / saved searches / smart playlists with episodes of TV series?
It would be nice to have smart collections / playlists which would update themselves when new movies / episodes are entered.
Using the above method, you’d create indeed a ‘smart’ playlist.

Which plex client are you using? I am using the one on the mac (and in the browser) and i none can I select all and add to a playlist. I have to do it manually…
Well - as far as I can see, I can filter the episodes and add them manually to a playlist. A smart playlist would update itself when I add new content which fit’s the search - which this one is not doing - it is a static playlist. Or am I missing something?
Yes, after a second look at the screenshot, it doesn’t make sense.
The way to make a smart playlist is to add the pure filter result to a playlist, without selecting any items manually.
However, what you want to do is not possible at all in Plex, since the list of actors is not stored per-episode.
True that… I was just thinking you can manually add the episodes… But yeah, no “smart list”
@OttoKerner Thanks OK - I will see if I can find this. But my search results looked completely different than the ones posted in this thread by NewPlaza. But what yo are subscribing would work, as I could search for the title of the episode as well.
I will come back to try this this afternoon.
He is using a custom filter, not the search bar ( click on image if not showing where arrow is pointing to show full image)

OK - I found it, and it is working. Now I just have to see, if it is updated when new shows are added.

better double check, as already posted by otto, plex does not track actors at the EPISODE level, only the series level.
meaning all episodes will have the same actors list.
