First, I love this feature. This is how I setup all of my collections.
My question is: Is there a way to use the album tag to have the movie placed into multiple collections? I’ve tried separating collection names with both commas and semi-colons with no luck. I have a number of movies that I would like to place into 2 or more collections, but haven’t found a way to embed the data. Any advice is appreciated.
@nydave69 Plex allows the use of the embedded “Album” tag to auto-populate Collections within libraries. This is discussed under the FAQ#2 at Collections | Plex Support. It is a great little tool. What I’m asking is if this capability can be used to add movies to more than one collection, or if I have to use the Plex web-client to add additional collections to a title. I would prefer not to have to do this via the web-client. With all of my files containing embedded tags, I can create a new library or rebuild a server any time without having to worry about how Plex matches titles, and all of my collections are created in the manner that I want them.
But since a lot of my files are not mp4s it doesn’t help me. I edit the movies and add the collections myself… Your going to have to edit the mp4 tag or the Plex tag, I know Plex allows more then one collection tag.
Whenever I rip a disc, I run it through Subler and have it add all of the appropriate meta, and correct it as appropriate. I’ve been using Plex for about a decade, and was embedding tags back when I watched videos through iTunes. It is cleaner for me to ensure that once I have the tags looking the way I want them to look, they will never change. It is especially true since I’ve had servers crash and had to rebuild them and the libraries are repopulated and look the way they always have. Side note, this works for both .mp4 and .m4v. Hopefully Plex will start using the embedded tags from other formats as well.
I’ve put movies into more than one collection before, but I am looking to see if there is a way to do it with the embedded tags.
