After some recent update, Plex has turbocharged its assignments of Collections tags. This isn’t a feature that I use very often, but suchness. One reason I don’t is, Plex seems to tag a lot of single, one-off movies as “Collections” (“Along Came A Devil”, for instance, has done nothing to deserve a collection as far as I can tell) while others, which are members of larger groupings within my library, are left out (Iron Man 2 does not rate the same treatment as 1 and 3? Is this an editorial decision?). Does anyone have any idea why this might be? I’m okay with manually tagging collections, but I would like to know why some flicks are chosen and others not. Seems queer to me.
Auto collection tags come from the themoviedb. Or they can come from mp4s with embedded Album tag. To not get them from themoviedb turn it off from the libraries advanced settings and the agent settings. To not get from embedded metadata then local media assets needs to be disabled but that also gets other things like local subtitle files and poster arts
Currently you can –
- show collections only (individual movies hidden inside the collection)
- hide collections (only show individual movies)
- show collections and show individual movies
there is currently no way to ‘hide’ single movie collections, although there are more than one thread requesting it.
I suggest you vote for one like @ [Feature Request] Hide Collections with only 1 item
Never, ever, have I gotten a single movie in a collection via an embedded field in an MP4/M4V after doing this with Local Media Assets under ALL TABS for TV Shows and Movies:
Red: where it was
Green: where it needs to be - if you ever want to use an MP4/M4V file without a lot of Drama.
Maybe I’ve been lucky, but ALL users need to move LMA from it’s default location - except maybe that dozen or so that might benefit from it being at the top.
is it Along Came A Devil or Along Came The Devil?
If it’s the latter, there was a 2nd movie made that was released in October (see: https://www.themoviedb.org/search?query=Along%20Came%20A%20Devil&language=en )… if it’s the former, I don’t see it on TMDB, so it may have come from metadata within your movie file…
No such movie - listed anywhere.
Yeah, that’s why I brought it up… I don’t want to contradict without asking though… But if it’s Along Came The Devil, that does have a sequel, and it’s justified to be in a Collection…
Then you don’t have any mp4s with an embedded album tag. Collection made of a completely made up movie with preroll video I have which I just added the embedded album tag “Fake Embedded”
Fair Enough. I’ve been lucky - or my OCD regarding embedded metadata - and the removal of same - has paid off.
Disabling LMA is insane. Absolutely Rubber-Room, Straight-Jacket Mambo Insane.
Whatever has to be done to prevent that - do it.
show collections only (individual movies hidden inside the collection) is still showing the individual movies on my system. Seems broken.
this happens sometimes to me (not every movie)… you can usually plex dance it to fix it
if you are filtered by anything but the default “title” it will show them
I’m sorting by title with no filters, which I understand should work.
check the movies that are outside the collection and make sure they have a collection set > tags > collection
he got it solved in another topic. Collections are still displaying each item
