I have recently tried to coral my media by creating collections and have noticed that both on the server (version 1.41.7.9799) and Fire TV (version 10.27.1.2743) if I select a collection from the grid on the left or the top of the page in server, I get the collection with entries from different libraries, that is what I wanted. However, if I use the drop down filter menu at the top left of the grid (All/Genre/Year etc…) and select collections, when I choose one from the pop up menu it only shows entries for the library I am in. Is this something that can be fixed in settings?
The filter will only list movies that match the filter criteria. This can be all movies in that library which are assigned to a collection.
A filter won’t provide a list of collections.
Edit:
Not sure where you’re selecting that collection. Collections are by design elements of a library. Plex will display the content of same-named collections as related content below the items of a collection.
Actually, yes, the filter does provide a list of collections that are in that library. However, if I select the drop down menu item, the collection is incomplete. The collection holds media from many different libraries and in all other cases all the media is displayed regardless of library except when I open a collection using the filter menu.
Well, it shows all media in the collection in that library and ignores the rest of the media. And yes, my collections are set up properly and tested. They work flawlessly except when I select a collection from the drop down menu.
What I believe is happening is that it is filtering content based on “select * from collection * in library ” and displaying that while not actually displaying the entire collection
As I wrote above.
When filtering, the collection is a mere filter criteria to display movies that are members of that collection in this library.
So, back to my original and only question, is this behaviour something that can be adjusted in settings? I did understand the problem and what was happening and was not interested in an explanation, just whether it could be altered.
It’s by design. There’s no hidden setting to change this behavior.
Why does smart collections for actors not work anymore?
How are they not working for you?
I just created one after reading your post and it’s working like a charm (filtering a library by actors, saving it as a smart collection, displaying it in various apps).
Does filtering on actor work in the regular filter? Have you tried optimizing database?
