I don’t see where LG WebOS is in the list of supported apps for skipping commercials in the Plex Removing Commercials Support Article.
Shut the front door! WebOS is indeed not listed as a supported platform. Well that is a bummer as my LG is the main screen for my family. I could always slap a cheap Roku on it but that adds another remote and would not be integrated as well as the native Plex app for the TV. Maybe it will get added some day. The skip feature works fantastically on my roku and fire tv.
I should add that I did see skip intro pop up and function on 1 show on my LG. Weird that it sort of worked a little bit one time.
I would never use the “smarts” from a TV, for the very reasons you’re discovering right now.
The TV will last, relatively speaking, forever. The smarts? About ten minutes (which is a millennium in tech time). And given that the smarts cost anywhere from $25 to $79, it’s just way too easy to replace them regularly–which gets you the latest feature sets from the streaming apps–while enjoying that wonderful TV screen and whatever that works fine.
So: that all being said, I had exactly zero problems introducing the family to the Sideclick remote. Snap the streaming player remote onto the side, do a quick program of power/volume on the Sideclick remote itself, and you have…a single remote for everything.
And if all you do is watch Roku, then there’s zero issues with changing inputs. (Or, if all you do is watch Roku, get an Ultra–it has power and volume buttons on the remote.)
If you’re changing inputs today, just program one of the Sideclick buttons to run through the inputs.
It is, effectively, exactly like having a Roku TV. But you always have the age and power level streaming solution you need, without having to replace the TV.
