I need a very good reason to continue using Plex as a DVR for Live TV.
Plex has been extremely useful to me for many years.
During the past few days, it has failed me continously.
The latest update turned the Commercial Skipper into a weapon.
My DVR antenna tuner will select the correct channel at the correct time.
It shows good reception activity for the duration of the show.
Data is written to the .grab folder.
Then, without exception, NO CONTENT written to the output file after transcoding!
I have removed and reinstalled the app several times.
Without debug level logs we can only make educated guesses. However, since you think it is a problem with the commercial skipper: Do you have your commercial skipper set to destructive commercial removal? (In DVR Settings is your “Detect Commercials” set to “Detect and Delete Commercials”?)
If so then it may be that the commercial skipper is identifying the entire show as a commercial, and then removes the entire show. Try setting your “Detect Commercials” to “Detect Commercials and mark for skip”. This will result in the full show being written as the output file, and then if the entire show is marked as a commercial you will still get the show.
I don’t know why this would have changed so much in the latest version (I’m on the same Plex server version on Linux, but am not having this problem - you don’t indicate your Plex server OS or if you use a custom comskip.ini.) However, if this does help then you may want to look at implementing a custom comskip.ini.
