You don’t need to be open source to have a public-facing bug tracker. You just have to care enough about the “public”.
But I think you hit the nail on the head as they say - no doubt Plex does try to solve the reported issues, but, as you say, for those issues that they are particularly invested or interested in.
There is something that I find difficult to understand in 4 months you have not advanced, why not ask your users, what are their configurations?
Where on your own did you manage to recreate the bug?
The problem that was reported three months ago, have you confirmed this problem?
If there is no confirmation, why did not communicate with the user for further confirmation?
If it has been confirmed, why is your response still under investigation after the user has waited three months?
When a user asks about progress, it is the most basic respect to give a reply. Regrettably, in the face of user inquiries over the past few months, Plex employees chose to ignore it, please do not use “no new information to provide” as a reason for you not to reply, Your employees are not respecting users on this issue, hope Plex can respond to the complaint and resolve the issue.
They replied on the other page that he had managed to fix the bug a few days ago.
Even if he apologizes in their post, I have a hard time understanding the lack of seriousness.
The bug has been around for more than 3 months and they are just at the stage of having managed to fix it again, so when Ferris wheel told us that he was working on it alternately what would he do?
Ps: Why don’t we see this forum on the main page in the last answer?
Here is what I noticed on my side on a Mac m1 the intel version works without worries.
With the ARM version the bug is there.
If you start a download for one file it will be downloaded once, if you start a download for two files the first file will be downloaded twice and the second file three times.
Strange thing if you start a download for 3 files and you change your mind five seconds later by telling him to download only one file, he will still have two downloads
You can quit the Plex client from the moment it has downloaded the first file when you restart it it resets the downloads to zero.
But it does not block the fact that Plex downloads more files exponentially
While browsing the forum I saw that Plex also has problems on PS5, and that it has been going on for 1 year.
Does the company have recruitment problems, or even worse close to filing for bankruptcy?
Following the new update on IOS (version 8.4) the bug has disappeared, the downloads work continuously and even my compatibility function which blocks the download also works
I would say thank you to the Plex team even if it’s a shame to have waited so many months without a solution
I had problems downloading content from my Apple devices (especially my iPad by the way). Plex, please fix this problem again!!! There are enough open tickets on the forum to realize that there is a real problem on this part
Another person interested in this … can’t download to any of my devices and I am about to go on a long trip. It would be nice if this feature worked. What’s going on there?
and we are working on it. sorry it is not get fixed in a timely manner. if you have not already and have logs that can help suggest posting in a forum topic about the specific downloads issue you are having.
Don’t you think it’s at all “off” that you’re telling a customer to stop complaining about a serious bug that has been in effect longer than people can remember and there has been zero update on progress? Plex is not simply an open source project. It is a for-profit company. Besides, the OP is demanding satisfaction in response to the apparent inaction on this issue for which no update exists. It’s now 9/2022 and nothing has changed. Considering sync used to work and this new feature clearly never worked why not revert back until you figure out what’s wrong with Downloading to Plex iOS?
I didn’t tell anyone to stop complaining, but the simple fact is making a topic that only serves to tell us we suck or whatever won’t make the issue easier to solve.
I suggested if they want to, provide more info in another that already exists about the issue.
I said I we are working on it (the downloads issue) . Like I said I understand folks won’t believe it because of the assumption that it is simple to fix if we just do it. but it isn’t simple unfortunately
Advice from someone else in the software industry: While I appreciate you justifying that you are working on it, there is no clear timeline given or shared. To us users, the product seems to be growing with more and more bugs, making it unusable for its advertised features. Further, and probably most important, I suggest you direct people, to the better place to go for that discussion. Otherwise, it comes across as an excuse. Delivering software is challenging. You have to prioritize and work on schedules. Sometimes, it is best to just level set with people to ease frustrations. If it takes a year, we can decide if this product is worth waiting for. If not, you are just opening the door to people looking at alternatives. I know many people that have abandoned their Plex servers for various other products. I am already considering the same too. Transparency. I think that is what everyone wants.
when the cause the the multiple bugs around downloads are figured out then they will be fixed. I can’t give a timeline for trying to find something as I have no idea how long that might take.
Is there any update on the progress with the “downloads” failing to work reliably/at all?
Is there a single place to look for updates?
Sorry if this has been asked before. I’m just a frustrated user looking for info
