Everything I attempt to download fails. No helpful information about what is happening or how to fix. It jus sits, shows an error, restarts, error, rise, repeat.
Downloads sucks worse than sync. Why are my downloads failing?
I have exact sme proble, except Sync no longer works either. What the hell is going on with this feature. I can’t download anything anymore. Very frustrated with Downloads & Sync
After many attempts to get either “sync” or “downloads” to work, I gave up and threw in the towel. Going on a trip. I tried downloading on Hulu, Prime & Netflix. All worked fine. I’ll try Plex downloads in the future when they get the never ending bugs worked out. I used Sync for years with few problems.
I’m having this exact same problem (andothers), all related to converting a few iPads from Sync to Downloads. Happy to share logs here (if that’s safe?) or via email. I’ve captured them just now while having all these issues.
I’m having the exact same problem. Anything I try to download doesn’t work. It’s very frustrating. A friend of mine introduced me to Infuse which effectively does the same thing as Plex so I might switch across. It’s extremely frustrating that this key feature isn’t being looked at even after so many complaints.
Take a look at this thread where @anon18523487 has identified a scenario for me where the new “Downloads” doesn’t gracefully deal with lingering SRT-related issues as well as “Sync” did.
Obviously there’s more work to be done on the Server end to get “Downloads” to work as smoothly as “Sync”, especially for us long-time Plex customers who have libraries that date back to the pre-“Plex Movie” (aka “legacy”) days, but I am finding that, one-by-one, doing a “Refresh Metadata” on my failing downloads has been making (most of?) them succeed.
I’m having the same problem with my android tablet. Weirdly works completely fine on my android phone. Tried deleting app, clearing cache etc and nothing has helped
I have the same issue as well (feb 2022) (iphone 8)
The Downloads tab just sits and spins indefinitely. It occasionally with succeed downloading an album, but the download rate is ridiculously slow as well. I have been trying to download some music before a flight today, I’ve managed to download 260MB over the last 3 hours according to the status presented in the app.
Assuming this feature starts working, it would be nice to be able to prioritize the download order too.
Im having the same problem. No matter how low of a quality I select, i’m just getting the generic ‘error downloading this item’. It would be useful if the error message could give some context as to what exactly the issue is (too little space / issue transcoding file type / connection status?) whatever.
It’s really a big step backwards to have gone from Sync that worked flawlessly to something that basically doesn’t work and I’m really shocked the Plex team allowed this to happen.
Similar issue here. Although mine never gets past the first hurdle on my android phone / fire and gives an error shown below. My ipad will get further, its starts the transcode and i can see the ipad downloading it but then i get Error downloading this item.
I’m relatively new to plex and travel for work, I sit in the back of airplanes a LOT. The whole point of my entire setup was being able to watch my things in the back and here I am finding out this problem has existed for months for hundreds of people, forum posts everywhere, and the only thing plex has said is ‘send us your logs’. First, people are posting logs, second, I guarantee they can reproduce this.
I started using plex right as sync ended and download began. Sync was so easy and smooth, no drama. Download is 100% useless. Like others, I have to use other tools. I finally had time to try to find a solution only to find plex doesn’t care, obviously. Who writes code that just throws a general error like “error downloading this item”?
So commenting here to keep the topic open until plex acknowledges and addresses this major issue.
Same here on the latest Plex release, trying to download to my Android phone just before going away for a few days and everything I try to download gives ‘There was an error downloading this file’.
