Confirm Settings for Local Metadata Only in Music Library

Server Version#: 4.156.0
Player Version#: (web); PlexAmp: 4.12.4

I would like Plex to only use local metadata for music. Can someone confirm the correct settings? Currently I have the following configuration and it is still pulling in remote metadata. Thanks.

No. Use “Plex Music” both for Scanner and Agent.
This is the default when you create a new music library.

Tick “prefer local meta tags”

configure to your personal preference:

  • Include related content from shared libraries
  • Artist Bios
  • Album Reviews and Critic Ratings
  • Popular Tracks (if disabled, some Plexamp features are not working)
  • Find Lyrics

Set “Genres” to “Embedded Tags”

Set “Album Art” to “Local Files Only”

Thanks for the guidance @OttoKerner.

Updated my config and did a “Refresh Metadata” on an album that was having issues. That did not fix it.

I then did the PlexDance (remove directory from Plex library directory, ran Scan Library Files, replaced files in library directory, ran Scan Library Files). It still read from online. The Year tag is set in the files and on Plex Web it pulled in the release date for Originally Available.

See that your ID3 tags are conforming to ID3v2.4
You can usually set that as a preference in your meta tag editor app.

I normally use ID3v2.3. The docs don’t indicated that v2.3 isn’t supported. Did I miss something?

That said, I updated an album to ID3v2.4. Did a “Refresh Metadata” at the album and artist level. Results were not correct on PlexWeb but were correct on PlexAmp. I am going to do some more testing.

This article, seems to indicate that “Prefer Local Meta Data” means that literally. Plex will use local metadata, might prefer it, but it will still scan on-line sources and potentially overwrite. That article is 6 years old so there could be an updated article that might indicate something different. I have not found it yet.
