I have a new NAS. I want to link the current libraries to the new file path. This way, all movies aren’t considered new additions, and the viewing history remains.
I want to change the path, but unfortunately, this isn’t possible. Can someone tell me the best way to do this?
When I try to create a new library, Plex can see the drives but not the folders within them.
I downloaded plex on the new nas and restored it with a token
I have a Synology DS220+ with Plex, and I’ve been using it for a long time. I bought a new NAS, a Synology DS423+.
I’m transferring everything from the DS220+ to the DS423+. Once everything is done, the DS220+ will be gone, and I’ll only have the DS423+.
I’ve configured Plex to not automatically scan my library. I wanted to install the Plex app on the DS423+ and restore it with a token. I did this and turned off the DS220+. Plex indicated that albums were unavailable. I tried to set the new path for each album, but that didn’t work.
then I wanted to try to create a new album but plex only sees the volumes but not the underlying folders
To give permission to the media inside the shared folder:
If you need more help about transferring one install to a new machine (in its entirety), I can help with that as well. ( I just transferred a DS1621+ → DS720+ due to HW transcoding limitations on the DS1621+)
I also plan to leave both NASs enabled so I can edit the existing library on the new NAS and add a path. Once it’s added and the library has been scanned, should I delete the old path from the old NAS?
Pardon me for intruding, but it appears to me that you seem to have a major misconception about how a Plex library works.
You cannot add a storage location on your new NAS to a Plex library that was created on the old NAS. At least not within Plex.
Plex server is installed and is running on your NAS. All data about your media collection are on this device. Adding a second NAS with Plex server on it will not magically merge the two devices within Plex. They will still be separate servers which don’t know much about each other.
