Connecting when on cellular not wifi-Ios

I’ve been using Plex for the sole purpose of viewing a huge library of photography. The only problem I ran into was certain tif files were not showing up inPMS. I solved this by converting all my files to .dng, something I’ve been meaning to do anyway. Even with giant 50+ mb files things work great! Eventually I’ll get an Apple TV to be able to “stream” my photos to my Tv!

Here is my question: How do I access my PMS when I am on cell service and not wifi? If I am at someplace other than my studio?

Is there a step by step for this? Fwiw I have ATT internet at home for internet and Verizon for my Iphone. This would be totally awesome to be able to get this to work.

Also, my photo library is on a GTech Thunderbolt 3 drive connected to a year old macbook pro.

Thank you so much. Jonathan

You can do that…
Have a look at this support article on „remote access“. There’s also a related troubleshooting guide in case you run into issues on the side of your router.

PS: keep in mind you will also need to allow the Plex client on iOS to use mobile data in the iOS system settings

Thanks Tom.

I am no where near being fluent in all things high IT, BUT I did mange to get everything to connect without the use of WiFi.

So here is what I did:

First I set my OS 10.15.3 System Prefs>Energy saver and set the HD to never sleep. I then turned off WiFi on my iPhone 11 to simulate being away from Wifi. Cellular data is enabled in the Plex IOS system.

I logged in to PMS>Settings>Advanced>Remote Access.

These settings seem to work for now. Will report back if anything weird develops. I have a bunch of new non related questions that I will start new discussion for since I hope this will help someone else.

Again thanks! Just amazing!!!

Jonathan

Remote access should also work without HDD/SSD being sleep-deprived. At worst this will cause Plex to take a moment longer in order to load

Thanks Tom. I’ll try that out too. Right now performance seems to be really good though for some reason she images take longer to load on IOS app (client?) than others. I will give a reprieve to my HDs though.
