Remote Access thru 4G on iphone app is gone

Server Version#: 1.28.6151 windows 10
Player Version#: ios 8.7.3

Hi there… one reason I bought the PlexPass was on the off chance that I would want to view/listen in an area without wifi, with the free version I was limited to a short duration of playback, which is perfect for testing purposes.

Now I have an occasion to require that function, as I am going into hospital for an extended stay, but when I try the app on iphone X it says “looks like you are offline… etc”. But if I use the browser to go to https://plex.tv/web it works fine…

I go into the hospital tomorrow am and never thought that I would need to try and get this sorted so late in the show, as I was assuming that once I had paid for a PlexPass, I had full access everywhere…

I am miffed…!! Ideas anyone…?

PMS 1.28.6151 IOS version 8.7.3

The Plex Pass does not help with that. If you don’t have internet, there is no way it can talk to your server. This would be no different than when you were using the app in trial mode.

I’m unclear why using the browser would work. You would run into the same issue that if there is no WiFi, it can’t talk to your server.

I’m sorry, But…
I was able to browse and play a limited duration with the free version. There was a message saying just that, and that if I wanted unrestricted playback, I should buy the Plexpass. Which I have done…

I can access my PMS through the browser on my iPhone so it shows there is access available remotely, so WHY NOT THRU THE IOS APP…?
cheers

If you could access your server before, buying a Plex Pass would not have changed the app being able to access your server. Did you see it go away as soon as you bought the Plex Pass?

I think something else is going on. Please restart the app so it can go through all it’s checks for finding your server, give it about 5 minutes. Then grab the iOS logs and upload them here for me to check.

All in the last week I have activated the two-step authentication process, as recommended. And I bought the PlexPass with the view of appreciating all the work done on Plex and the up and coming hospital visit.

I went through the steps of logging off the app and server, then restarting the server, logging on, then opening the app which asked for the activation code from my authentication app. Then tried the app on 4G…

I could access the server thru the app on my iphone about six months ago, that was the last time I tried…

What are/is “the IOS logs”

It’s a link, click on it to get the instructions on how to get them.

Durr sorry… btw I added another sentence to my reply about the steps I went through…

To where do I send the zip file.?

Just attach it to your comment. Or if you are concerned about privacy, click on my image and select “Message”. That will allow you to send a private message only to me.

PlexDebugInfo-doobre-8.7.3-1 (2022-08-31 18.57.08 +1200).zip (1.2 MB)

Your logs show that the app may be blocked from using cellular data. Check your iPhone settings. Not something I’ve done but I found these instructions.

Go to Settings > Cellular, then turn Cellular Data on or off for any app (such as Maps) or service (such as Wi-Fi Assist) that can use cellular data.

YEEEEEHARRRRRR you got it head on… bang there it is…
Thank you, thank you, thank you…

My trust is restored and so promptly too… perhaps the two recent updates in IOS changed the setting or just my stupid thumbs getting in the way…

Brilliant stuff MovieFan.Plex cheers to you…
