Connecting Windows 10 PC Plex Media Server to NAS Router

Server Version#: 4.30.2
Player Version#: 4.30.2

I am running Plex on a Win 10 Pro laptop with USB 2TB hard drive with 11,000+ music files (.WAV, .AIF, .MP3). I can play these files on the laptop as expected. But I wish to use the laptop as my media server, and play these music files through my home Hi-Fi.

How do I link this laptop-based server to my LAN router, so I can stream the laptop Plex output to a LAN connected Denon DNP-800NE, which feeds my local Hi-Fi? I will also need the router connection to enable Plex v.8.0.1.17410 on Android Galaxy S8. Thanks for your assistance.

Howdy Airpilot,
I’m assuming your laptop is directly connected to your router via ethernet…and your router is broadcasting a wifi signal that you can connect to. Your plex server will connect to any device you choose to use to feed your amplifier. There are lot of device options - check online. AFAIK you cannot just connect your amplifier to a plex server and play music directly.

Hi Tony:

thanks for your reply. Being new to this, I really need more detailed direction, please.

Yes, my laptop is wirelessly connected to my router, and I could easily connect it direct with Cat 5 if needed. Is this needed?

Apparently my router is viewable by any new computer - my laptop finds it easily. Is this what you meant by “broadcasting a wifi signal”?

Where in the Plex application do I select the device Plex should use to feed my amplifier? Please be specific - I couldn’t find any place to do this.

You said “There are device options - check online” Where online, please? I have no idea where to look.

What does AFAIK mean? Told you, I’m new at this…!

I agree, I can’t connect an amp to the server, I need the router between them.

Lastly, can i set up Plex to play folders instead of queues? Is there an option for this in setup?

Please guide me through this. I’ve checked the Plex documentation and forum, and I’m still confused.

Thanks, Airpilot
