Plex Media Server Logs_2018-11-11_23-07-38.zip (3.4 MB)
Hi,

Recently I have been having an issue where trying to play media from my PC which is where PMS is also located causes the playback to get stuck buffering for minutes at a time per 30s or so of playback.
This issue has been ongoing for 2-3 weeks and over multiple browsers (chrome/brave most recent), though playback is buttery smooth via my Google Pixel on android.
I’m not noticing any abnormally high usage on the PC while trying to play so i’m not sure what the issue may be.

I am running:
W10 Home 1809 17763.107
i5-3570k 3.4GHz OC to 4.2GHz
16gb DDR3 ram
Nvidia GTX1070

Thanks in advance for your help, if there is any more information to make it easier please let me know.

Regards,

Lee

Looks like you’re transcoding.

Check Settings -> Web Client -> Quality. Set to Maximum if different.

Check Settings -> Web Client -> Debug. Make sure both Direct Play and Direct Stream are checked.

Consider using Plex Media Player. It is a much better client than Plex Web. It does not have the restrictions of web clients WRT supported audio & video codecs. Almost everything will direct play.

Edit: In the “Plex Media Server.log” file, look for lines with “MDE:”, which is Media Decision Engine.

I changed the quality to maximum and noticed no improvement, though I didn’t restart the server in case that was necessary.

I did also switch to Plex media player and the issue has gone completely.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, thanks for this, I came here to post the same question.
Nvidia Shield TV plays perfectly, Web on the WIn10 laptop rubbish.
Swapped to the Plex Media Player (never thought to use it) and bingo, works perfectly

Thanks
