Just testing my new server - Watching a movie via direct play locally without issue, then it randomly buffered and wouldn’t continue. Refreshing the client and resuming play worked fine and Tautulli then reported the buffering one and the working one active. Any ideas why this happened?
From your logs, your server is not direct playing the media.
e.g. “Godzilla: King of Monsters (2019)” has been transcoded because direct play / direct streaming seems to have been disabled on the client you used.
You might want to double-check your Plex Web settings (Settings > Plex Web > Debug > Direct Play / Direct Stream).
When you use the browser to play your media, this could also require some transcoding – even if direct play/stream are enabled. This is simply due to the restrictions of media playback within a browser.
From the logs it looks like there’s quite some jumps in the estimated required bandwidth. I suppose that might cause some further bottleneck for your playback.
Thanks Tom, I forgot for a moment that Chrome doesn’t support h265 and to do so I’d need to use the PMP.
I think the buffering issue was caused by a driver issue (or therefore lack of) with Realtek on this new system as later in the day I was getting BSOD errors caused by rt640x64. I’ve updated the drivers etc and time shall tell!
