'Continue Watching' and 'Recommended' page/section does not load every time, and sometimes fails

Server Version#: 1.41.9.9961 on Qnap NAS
Player Version#: 4.147.1 on Windows chrome web browser player. But also seeing this on Roku and Shield players.

Some odd things are happening with my plex ‘Home’ screen and the library ‘Recommended’ tabs…

  1. The ‘Continue Watching’ section on the plex ‘Home’ screen doesn’t always load everytime, but it does load sometimes after moving away from the page and coming back. When it doesn’t load, it just shows other sections that are normally below it.

  2. The ‘Recommended’ tab on the libary page sometimes completely fails to load with the error ‘something went wrong an unexpected error occored’ with a retry button. When clicking the retry button, the page loads as usual.

The page load times are painfully slow usually too, when it didn’t used to be so slow. I’ve checked the server log, but don’t see any glaring errors to speak of. One WARN warning message that may be of interest, but not sure…

Jul 25, 2025 14:14:46.387 [139919157693240] WARN - [Req#42baa] QueryParser: Invalid field ‘contentDirectoryID’ found, ignoring.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I’m using Roku with QNAP and not experiencing it… just as a reference.

One thing I’ve learned with Roku over the many years is that it can get kinda stupid and then keeps being stupid until you unplug it. Literally unplug it. Restart from menu or power button doesn’t always clear some background caching of it being stupid and only pulling the power cable will do it. I’ve had that fix numerous things over the years so anytime Roku starts acting funny about anything the first thing I do is pull the power cable and then troubleshoot more if the problem is still there. Give that a shot to get started.

And you might want to go ahead and upload your full server logs for folks to look at…

I’m Optimizing the database and Cleaning Bundles now. I just realized I hadn’t done that on this server yet. Waiting to see if that fixes it…

Optimize, clean bundles, and empty trash seemed to fix it so far.
