Just set up Plex on Win 11 for my dad to play his large music collection.
Windows to a DAC and to the amplifier.
Runs like a charm!
My dad is 78 and would like the possibility to skip tunes, search for songs etc. from his smartphone.
The Plex amp app for smartphones loads the media server fine, but it doesn’t really let me control the ongoing session, only start a new session on the device.
How can I control an ongoing session via the Plex App?
Which particular Plex software has been installed on the Windows 11 computer?
Ideally, it should be Plexamp for Windows.
Then check in the Settings (Device - Remote Control) that it allows to be remote controlled.
Then open the Plexamp app on the phone.
In the system settings of iOS, Plexamp needs to be granted the privilege to access the local network.
(If your own Plex server is not located within the local network of your father’s,) it might be necessary to additionally install the Plex server software on your father’s computer. That way it can act as a “Companion relay” for the local network.
(there is no need to enable remote access on the server, or add any media files at all. It just needs to be present in the local network.)
It is also crucial, that in the properties of the network connection of the Windows machine, it says “Private”, and not “Public”.
Then the Plexamp app needs to be open on the Windows machine.
After a few seconds, the Plexamp app on the phone should be able to “see” it, when you tap on the remote control icon in the lower right corner of the player screen.
(A little bit confusingly, if playback is closed or minimized, this icon is located at the top right corner of the Plexamp main screen.)
