Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error - 2019 Plex server

Server Version#: Newest
Player Version#: Newest

The server is running on a Xpenoloy Homebuild NAS
I think it has something to do with my subtitles, but I am unsure

The logs where downloaded just when it happend on my Samsung TV

This happends in every movie that I put subtitles from OpenSubtitles or upload SRT.

Can anyone out of the log see the issue? and tell me what to do to resolve it?Plex Media Server Logs_2019-09-02_00-31-28.zip (2.8 MB)

Do you have media in the Plex share?

Yes. I put media in the plex share under
Volume1/Plex/Libary
Is this incorrect?

That is incorrect.

When my installer runs and creates the Plex share, I also create files which urge you to NOT place video files in the Plex share.

You should make a separate share (e.g. Movies, Television) and place your media there.
The Plex share is for my use.

Ok. After doing this, my plex went jackshit and im soon giving up on it.

-> Instead of going into the settings etc, I removed plex completly, the user and the plex folder.

Reinstalled plex, and pointed it towards a new shared folder called media

Out of 149 movies, only 17 are detected and it doenst change. The folder structure is the same.
Folder strucute is
Shared folder (Media) -> Movie name -> Movie name.mp4

Btw, thanks for your support. 10/10  But now got an issue to find all of my media…

MP4 files contain metadata, If that metadata is incorrect, Plex will have difficulty matching them
If the names contain junk (like almost all torrents do), Plex will have difficulty matching them.

Please see the Plex naming standard here:

Hi Chuck.

I know → But it worked before I moved it from the plex libary :stuck_out_tongue: It worked just fine before, and I only moved the files. Nothing else…

If it worked when in the Plex share, where user plex has permission to read, did you remember to grant user plex permission to read the files in the new share?

Yep I did.

What plex sees:

This setup worked before I moved the libary. here some permission screenshots:

Your folder names look good.
Are the files themselves also named the same?

When you read the internal metadata with mediainfo or ffmpeg -i, do you get equally clean titles?

Hi Chuck
File name example:

I have 231 folders in this media folder:

Plex is stuck here:

Infinte loading. Nothing. Just keeps “searching”

There’s something else going on here.

  1. Media matching isn’t related to the loading screen .
  2. Conversion failures aren’t related to naming or infinite loading unless you’re trying to transcode media which the NAS is struggling badly to convert for you.

Would you please do the following for me?

  1. Verify DEBUG logging is on, VERBOSE is off
  2. Start a playback which causes the problem.
  3. As soon as it fails (I presume when trying to start ?),
  4. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
  5. Attach that ZIP file here for me.
  6. Also hover over the item you just attempted to play, expose the ellipsis, click “Get Info” -> “View XML”
  7. Copy & paste the upper portion of the XML (only need the actual Stream info) here.

Pasting should be done this way. (makes it really easy to read)
```
paste XML here
```

It looks like

paste XML here

when done.

I’ll go through the logs, compare to the XML, and see what PMS is trying to do.

I actually haven´t tested the transcoding issues eversince I moved the media from the shared plex libary. Should´t I do that first before getting you to read 5 pages of logs :P!

Furthermore, the issue now lays within Plex having issues finding the media. Not sure why.

Work with me please, I’ve been doing this a while. You’d be surprised how fast I can crank through 50 discrete log files

I trust you and will work with you. I just cant force the transcode issue. It happends now and then → I will make sure to have it for you asap. I will try to force it now haha!
Once again, Chuck, amazing support!

EDIT
By now and then, always 4-6 times in one movie

If you know one particular movie does it, Please grab that XML now.
I will look at it.

I am the Syno dev here and can extrapolate easily.

I am still trying to get it to do it. Dont know if its because I now moved the files on its own share. I´ll keep you posted. The same movie that did it last time didnt do it this time. But still going through all of them. I´ll keep you posted.

Kevin,

Please show me the XML ?
