Player Version#: Version 4.22.3
Running Raspberry Pi 4 4gb with OMV and Docker
Cant play any file from my server with plex at all. always get "Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error."Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-08_21-44-46.zip (4.4 MB)

It cannot find valid codecs.

Either they did not download correctly or never downloaded at all.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Open /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs
  3. Remove everything you see
  4. Start Plex
  5. Attempt to playback again.
  6. Allow it a bit of time for the codec to download.
  7. If it fails to play again, Please gather the logs and again attach.

Seems the issue is with .avi and .mkv files… It does play .mp4 just fine
Any suggestions other than converting 3/4 of my library to mp4?

on another note, It played these file before i had to rebuild my server (upgraded from Raspi 3b+ to 4b+)

AVI and MKV, just like MP4, are containers.

What matters is the encoding.

Are they H264 (AVC) or are they MPEG4 (XviD) ?

MPEG4 will not play and is now giving me “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” error
this is weird…now it’s playing my MKV that are H264 files but not any of the AVI files that are MPEG4

Also, I’ve updated so I don’t know if I’m dealing with new issues

I need to also see the XML of the items played.

(Hover -> Get Info -> View XML)

I need the upper (media) part only. I don’t need any of the supplemental actor, genre or extras.

MPEG4 (DivX) is deprecated upstream. When it breaks it breaks.

It’s time to move the files to H.264 / H.265

Thanks for your help, But it seems the update fixed my initial issue and the MPEG4 issue was just a matter of patients for it to download the codec. All is working now, but i appreciate your time. Again Thank you
