Thank you. I didn’t get any notifications, so I had no idea but, FordGuy61 - this was the issue I guess. Working now - I appreciate your time.
Stopped working for me again. Just an endless spinning circle - no error message.
Again just movies and TV shows. Personal videos work fine, music works fine.
Everything works fine on on the computer app or on Roku app. Just doesn’t work in a browser or a browser based app
- Stop Plex Media Server
- Wait 30 seconds
- Start Plex Media Server
- Wait 3 minutes for Plex to log the startup sequence.
- Recreate the problem
- Pull and post server log files.

OK, here they are. Thank you for your help.
From Plex Media Server.log:
Feb 01, 2026 05:42:33.759 [140543605926544] ERROR - Error creating directory "G:\Plex temp": Permission denied
What is G:\Plex temp?
Is that entered somewhere in a Plex Media Server setting? If so, where?
That is a Windows directory structure. It will not work on a Linux based system (Synology NAS run a customized version of Linux).
From Plex Media Server.log:

This is why you are having trouble playing media when transcoding is necessary. Also why Plex is probably not adding some files to libraries.
You’re still exceeding the number of folders Plex can monitor (mentioned above).
To rectify, perform Synology FAQ 16: Increase the number of folders Plex can monitor.
You have to reboot the NAS after increasing the limit (it is a Synology, not Plex, limit).
Someone suggested this a few weeks ago so I went through the process and changed it to 262144 like the example (my number was lower, but I figured this gave me more room to grow). Everything worked for a little while afterwards, and just reverted recently - could an update to the server software reset it?
No.
Just leave both blank.
Is there some reason you need to change either location?
Yes. A Synology update can reset it.
Perform the FAQ again, reboot the NAS, then check the log files.
Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. Now I know and have the solution for the future.
I just thought it would need somewhere. It’s blank now. Thanks again.
