"Conversion failed. Transcoder exited due to an error." Windows 10

Server Version#: 1.17.0.1841
Player Version#: Web

Trying to play a movie via chromecast, on my laptop, or on the desktop that’s hosting the Plex server all result in the same issue - playback stops and throws up the “Conversion failed. Transcoder exited due to an error.” screen even when I have it set to play the file in its original quality. Plex is up to date, Windows 10 is also up to date, I’ve rebooted my computer.

Most recent time of error in the logs would have been around 9:20 while trying to play “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country”.

Your logs show that you have chosen to use a subtitle file that doesn’t exist or can’t be read correctly. Choose not to use a subtitle and see if you have the same problem.

I had the same problem with multiple shows, and removing the subtitles fixed the problem. These were subtitles that were auto downloaded by the subtitles.org agent. Is there some other problem with the player not being able to use legitimate SRT files?

I spoke too soon. Videos play for a few seconds before I get the same Conversion Failed error. When I try to go to the troubleshooting section, I get a “Server Settings are Unavailable” message, so I have to manually copy the server log files into a zip file. I even tried playing files that I’ve already watched and got the same results. Please help

Additional information, this works fine when I play it on my Android phone. It’s not working in the web player, my Sony TV (Android TV) or Vizio TV

Did your issue get resolved? I have the same issue and cannot find the fix at this time?

I’m getting this on my shield and fire sticks. Haven’t changed anything nor selected any subtitles. Any ideas? Where do I find my logs?
