"Converter not available"

Windows 10, grabbing media off my WD DL2100 NAS, and picking it up via my home LAN by a Roku 4. When I tried to play a recent file, it gave me the “Converter not available” error - but the file is:

MKV, H264 (High @ L4.1), Tool name: mkvmerge v9.0.1 (Obstacles) 64bit, AC3 6.1 (Und)
AFAICT that should play fine.

I just had a thought, and checked another file that did play:
MKV, H264 (High @ L3.1), Tool name: x264 exe, AAC2.0 (Eng)

Any clues why it failed?

BTW, I just checked: both play just fine on my computer (Plex Media Player on Chrome).

I’m not familiar with that error. Can you provide the PMS and Roku logs after recreating this issue. See my sig for a link to instructions on how to get logs.

OK, and thanks for your help.

Elementary 5x22 is the one that wouldn’t play on Roku, but did finally play later last night on my laptop’s Plex. Both were post-8:30 pm 5/23 attempts.

At this point, it’s giving me that error for almost every video - including ones I have already watched.

I’m beginning to suspect it’s a version issue, but it’s odd others aren’t having it…

Hmm. On 5/23 you were running PMS 1.4.3. There was a mandatory update to 1.5.X, so that could have been responsible for the errors you saw on that day.

But then I see you updated to 1.5.5. I do see some odd errors but nothing related to playback. Can you provide a new log using 1.5.5 and trying to playback a video. Can you also provide me the log from the Roku?

I have three servers for Plex:
WDMyCloudDL2100 running Version 1.5.6.3790 (“up–to-date”)
Inspiron_Win10 (my laptop) running Version Version 1.5.5.3634 (“up–to-date”)
and Plex Cloud (newly added, never used) running Version 1.3.2.237 (not clear on how to update that one, nor if it needs it)

When I play Archer 8x05 on the WD server, it stalls, gives me the no-converter error, and (I just noticed) describes the audio as “unknown (AAC3 5.1)”.

The same episode (and episode source file) off of InspironWin10 plays just fine.

The version number for Inspiron’s server is oddly lower than that for the misbehaving WD server - although it looks like they aren’t meant to be kept in perfect sync, numbering-wise.

Both WD and Inspiron logs attached. Thank you for all your attention and help.

The WD DL2100 is only capable of transcoding 480p. There may be issues with 720p. Your log shows you trying to play episode 07 which is 720p.

I also see this in your log.
