I’ve successfully managed to move plex to a new laptop before and I need to do it again but it hasn’t worked. I zipped up the appdata folder, moveit over, unzipped to the same place, imported my registry settings.
Log in, no media, no libraries. manually add in the libraries and it starts scanning for metadata again even though the metadata folder is there
Check the registry if an entry exists for the location of the Appdata folder. If there is, make sure it matches the location you unzipped to.
No it doesn’t, not even in the exported .reg file. Strange, this file has worked before on a different machine
Ok, if it’s not there, then it’s using the default location. Did you install PMS using the defaults on the new laptop?
yep, clicked straight through with all the defaults.
Ok, the only other thing I can think is the permissions for the appdata. Since that came out from the “user” folder, the permissions are for that Windows user. Even if you use the same name on the new computer, it is still a different user. I would check the permissions and make sure the user on the new computer has permission to those folders.
