Cord Cutters Rejoice: All your Channels, One Guide

Plexcerpts email received on Feb 25th states a new Guide that merges local and Plex sources and the article in the blog shows screen shots of the new feature. So I update to the latest release and the Guide is still exactly the same. No new feature.

Maybe it’s US only? Maybe it’s actually not on general release yet, but the email and blog article indicate it’s here and available. However, neither mention which release version includes this new feature, so I’ve got NO idea what’s going on.

It’s like the announcement has been made specifically to frustrate the user. Show something that’s possibly great, but provide NO info as to how one might be able to get it. If you want to advertise some new feature, the users need to be told how to get it, or why they cannot get it. As it is, it’s just annoying that I’ve wasted this much time on basically nothing.

From the blog post:

As of today, you can find local live TV and Plex Live TV as tabs in your new guide in all of our big screen Plex apps (the updated guide will be available in the mobile and web apps soon). Local TV will be listed under your server name (and soon will be customizable to any name you choose). Both options, in the same place.

TL;DR:

  • already available on the big-screen apps (e.g. Android TV, Apple TV, Plex HTPC, Smart TVs and the likes)
  • soon to be available on mobile clients and Plex Web

TY @tom80H I too saw the blog post and was very excited, and then very frustrated as I saw no changes. Sure, I had unfortunately skipped over the part that its not yet on mobile or web apps (or the windows app) Sure wish that hadnt been burred, or i wasnt too lazy to carefully read it!

Jumping on the A80J, I was pleasantly surprised to see what i wanted. The addition of favorites is a real game changer for me as I have 220+ IPTV channels and they didnt group how I wanted, so now I can at least favorite the ones wat down the list to get to quickly

Thanks, I did miss the subtlety of that part. I was using Plex on Mac and that is also ‘BIG SCREEN’ for me and THE primary controller of PMS so did not think about that being the issue. I will check on the Apple TV.

However, the fact it seems to depend on the platform makes me think this may not be a server configuration. Will every client have to set this up or will they all simply display how it has been configured on the server? If the former, that will be a complete PIA with a dozen or so clients that would then all require being individually set up - in exactly the same way in my case.

Does this also introduce multiple tuner/guide functionality?

How do we get the OTA EPG updated, so frustrating new OTA broadcasts in the Nashville TN market I can’t record. I have filled out forms several times but CRICKETS from PLEX.
