Live TV&DVR / Live TV on Plex Combined

So last night it seems that my Roku’s started showing only a single “Live TV” option on the menu. No longer was there a “Live TV &DVR” nor a “Live TV on Plex” option. It appears that they are working to combine these two into a single item, which is great and will clear things up. You can set favorites on both Tuner channels and Plex channels which is REALLY nice. BUT, you can’t seem to reorder them at all, which kind of sucks (unless I just haven’t figured out how yet). We really need to be able to easily reorder the favorites, PLEASE!

I also don’t like that the server name is used for the tuner stations. It should be more descriptive on what it is, not the name of the server.

Anyway, I never saw this in the release notes, but things are evolving.

I have a Firestick, and once the Plex app updated, there was a “popup notification” saying changes were happing into one easy guide. The Google TV on Chromecast is also now this way, so I assume that is true for all Andriod based apps. Not sure what other platforms are headed this path too.

Pity that can’t Plex blog/post on these planned updates or at least provide some obvious release notes, communication could be much better.

But hopefully some steps in the right direction.

Well, they just reverted it back to the old style. Really wish they would quit doing this unexpected crap to us. Causing nothing but problems per their MO.

Oh wow…they did. It’s all gone and back to the way it has been. I guess that was an “Ooops, that wasn’t suppose to show up yet.”

Same happened on the Apple TV (minutes ago), but after restarting the app it disappears.

IMO it looked great and it’s a much needed improvement to guide.

Dunno if the change was planned or not but it had significant issues if you have multiple servers hosting Live TV w/ XMLTV and the EPG happens to share numbers between them so when switching back and forth between different guides the program data would bleed over to other servers EPG.

certainly wasn’t planned, they don’t usually enable new features till the blog post is live, they must be pretty close to release if its appearing on multiple platforms though.

I only have one HDHomeRun running (with Plex Live TV disabled), so all it changed was the ability to sort by type of channel and favourite them, so a great improvement haha

Glad this was already being discussed… It completely screwed all rokus in my house. LiveTv’s guide just sat there and had the spinning circle. I couldn’t unpin it. Had to go to my actual server from more, and click live tv & dvr to get things working. Was REALLY fun trying to figure this out on the road to my wife last night. THANKS PLEX…

I was confused when I saw these changes yesterday (2/22/22) as well. Because I had made no updates to the client players I use (iOS, Nvidia Shield). Then this morning it was gone. I did like what I saw though, but not quite ready for prime time.

what did you see? all we got was a spinning circle…

Live TV is broken as a wet bag of diarrhea. I was able to use my HDHomeRun, once I was able to add channels to Favorites. Then when I restarted the plex app on Roku my HDHomeRun channels disappeared, cannot view the Favorites. It’s broken.

I was surprised to see this pop up on my Apple TV. Now the feature has completely disappeared.

This was mistakenly pushed out early, according to a plex employee:

This has switched over for me on Apple TV, but two issues-

  1. The What’s On section has disappeared. This was great to see incoming series and suggested content.

  2. The genres are rather obscure and unpersonalised. For example, no Drama or Documentary.

This “All your channels, one easy guide” update appeared on my Shield devices after most recent update to the Plex for Android TV app.

While I like the new navigation for Live TV all in one place, I do have a problem with this.

I have three different Plex Media Servers in 3 different physical locations. One in Missouri with two HDHomeRun Quads (25 local OTA channels), One in New York with one HDHomeRun Prime (450+ channels via Verizon FIOS), 2nd one in New York with one HDHomeRun Quad (60+ local OTA channels).

The problem that I have is when I switch between the Missouri channels and the NewYork FIOS channels, the guide does not change. I have to first change to the New York OTA channels and then change to the New York FIOS channels for the guide to update.

Uhmmm I can’t make it revert back on my Roku for one managed account (the one I actually use) - though if I switch to other managed accounts its fine. But on mine, the guide no longer works - its just trying to show me the plex channels (which I have disabled) and won’t show me my Live TV channels. But only on one managed account and only on Roku. Otherwise it works as expected.

How do I fix this? Already tried re-starting. Do I have to remove and re-add the Plex channel? Help???

Edit: removing and re-adding the plex channel to my roku did not fix it. On the same managed user on other devices the guide works fine and shows me channels from my TV tuner. On Roku, even after re-installing, it’s still trying to show me the Plex streaming channels, which I have disabled, so it just complains about them being offline.

To be clear: Live TV still works, but I can only get at it from “Recent Channels” on the home screen or from “Browse” but not from the guide.

What do you mean by switching in this case? Could you please list the exact steps you are following so I can try to replicate?

Thanks!

I have two Synology servers, each has a HDHomeRun live TV device and a Plex server. With this change, only ONE of them was visible on live TV, but both were visible for what was recorded by Plex…

Not happy with this change, Plex-Roku is 6.9-18

I just have one HDHomeRun Prime. The channels from it no longer appear in the guide for one managed account on roku. Everywhere else its fine, even on that same managed account. I do not understand.
