Correct procedure for upgrading PlexConnect?

Sorry, I've searched, read, experimented. Still confused.

When upgrading PlexConnect by downloading the .zip of a newer version (i.e. NOT using Git), what should one do?

Merge new directories with existing?

Replace existing installation completely with new, then add certificate, settings, etc?

Something else?

I've just been replacing my existing PlexConnect installation with the new files, then copying over Settings.cfg, ATVSettings.cfg and trailers.pem. But it occured to me that this is using old settings files on a later version, which doesn't seem right.

Should I be editing the config files on the new version once they are generated? That doesn't seem right either.

I'm sure it's trivial, could someone bash out a list of the 2 or 3 required steps please?

And thank you devs for giving my ATV3 a purpose in life.

Personally i rename my old plexconnect folder to old-plexconnect copy a new one over then copy my certs from the old-plexconnect/assets/certs folder, run it once by sudo ./plexconnect.py to generate a new settings file. I never copy anything but the certs to my new install. I delete the old pms app then reinstall a new one.
