Cost of Cloud Setup

Has anyone done some basic cost calculations on using the upcoming Plex Cloud option? I would love to have all my stuff in the cloud, but the costs look high from some brief investigation, especially now that Amazon Cloud is ruled out.

Anyone have any feel for costs for occasional use with a fair amount of video data?

It will get cheaper all the time, every year… have you considered your own solution with your own server and a fast internet connection?

I mentioned it in another thread, but unlimited google drive can be effectively $130/year. 10 bucks, once a year for a domain name, and then 10 bucks a month for the service.

Where do you get 10 bucks a month for unlimited? I see 10 bucks a month for 1TB of space. 10TB of space is $100 a month. It’s super frustrating Amazon is out, they are 5 bucks a month for truly unlimited storage space. No other provider came close on cost.

Well, I just looked at my google drive and it shows 10TB free of 11.4TB. Basically, no matter how much I add, it appends 10TB of free space onto it. I’m only paying 10 bucks a month…so that’s where I get unlimited for 10 bucks a month. It’s not a personal account, but a business account…which costs $130/year.

Yep, same here. At 16TB. Use goodsync for syncing and NETDrive2 to mount the google drive as a local drive.

The 5 user limit is not enforced and unlimited with 1 person.

What about Apple’s iCloud Drive as an option? It seems they have good pricing tiers as well.

I love Apple and iCloud in particular, but the company traditionally trails behind in its internet offerings. iCloud is nicely integrated into Apple’s ecosystem and does the job well, but it is not a product on its own, thus can be safely ignored by SaaS like Plex Cloud. Besides, I wonder if restrictive Apple’s APIs are even sufficient for Plex Cloud to work at all.

Yup and I just paid $10 and I see one terabyte nothing more you need to pay $100 a month for 10 TB so I’ll say Plex cloud is dead

Just a clarification: have you signed up for Google Drive in G Suite Business or just its customer version? I can confirm that I’m a single user in my domain and Google Drive is unlimited for me.

This is what happens when people only read some of the words.

Just like with politics… I only read the words I like.
