Hi, I would like to know if there is a way for personal agent media to take the file name data for the tvshows chapters as it happens with the movies
Some of my Tvshows (mostly my own personal recordings) which do not exist in tvdb.com (in fact as they are personal I do not want them to be there). All of them are named in my hard drive i.e as follows:
C:/videos caseros/Menu s01e01 gazpacho, ensalada y carne
C:/videos caseros/Menu s01e02 paella, lenguado y melon
Etc.
PMM creates a tv show with the name “Menu” and with the chapters:
Chapter 1 (no name listed)
Chapter 2 (no name listed)
But I would like it to be like this:
Chapter 1 gazpacho, ensalada y carne
Chapter 2 paella, lenguado y melón
That is, I would like it to make the file name the chapter name, same as it does with the movies section.
Is this possible?
You can find a solution that did not work for me at this link

Thank
Unfortunately with current scanners/agents this is not possible…
I’d also like for TV shows category to be more flexible. Right now, its great for ‘downloaded’ content, not so great for recorded TV or personal episodes like you’ve mentioned above.
What a pity. However, it is quite difficult for me to assume that, apparently, I am the only one demanding this feature. I would have thought that many of us have lots of personal stuff that would be much easily managed with it. Is it really such a problem technically speaking? Thanks a lot anyway.
There was a post by elan ways back that there is no ‘standard’ way of naming episode titles so they did not implement it… ( or something close to that )
I think it’d be enough if plex had its own standard, say put episode title in [ ] and parse it that way. I’d vote for anything really as I can adapt my script but having my personal videos in TV SHOWS category without this, is not very elegant with blank episode titles …
It’s only that I don’t get where the technical problem is just to select anything written i.e before (.avi) and have it as a title for personal TV Shows. Is that not better than anything? This is already done by the movies section. I have been waiting for over 2 years and I have more than 300 series stuck. I think it’s only a short code line that would solve my (and I believe that other people’s) problem once and for all. Again, I think that there’s no reason for making it in a standard way, just have everything before .avi taken as the title. It is very frustrating for me.
With the new web interface you easily edit any kind of metadata for the local database. Why not just use that? Putting metadata in file names is a bad practice.
But I cannot edit over 5000 chapters one by one! I think that maybe you have not understood my problem. I do not have the name as metadata but as a file name and that is the one I want to show as chapter title.
In the movies section if the agent doesn’t find the title in the internet data bases (freebase) it simply takes the file name and paints it. Then you can always add posters, actors, etc, manually. But at least it does that for you, instead of just writing for instance name? In TV shows it just reads chapter1, chapter2…
Porfplump already wrote a scrit that solved this issue as you can see in the attached post:
http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/35664-episode-title-from-file-name/page__p__242028__fromsearch__1#entry242028
But unfortunately, with the new versions it stopped working and it’s development was discontinued.
I keep thinking that a simple code line could solve many people’s problems. I would like to see a little interest on the developers.
Thanks again.
Yeah sorry, completly misunderstood. I think you are correct that if this works in movies, it will easily be fixed in series aswell. Bumping this one up for you
I'm watching a lot of tutorials that I bough on the net in H264. I'm using Plex to have them anywhere I want to watch them. (iPad, Web...)
It would really help to have the name of the files (or partial name of the file without SxxExx) as title instead of just episode 01, 02...
I hope Elan and his team would implement this soon :)
Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (working with personal media agent, embedded metadata for personal media tv-shows)
