I came to Plex after purchasing our NAS and for the most part it playing stream direct play to multiple clients however it’s not great at transcoding anything - basically goes into melt down. To get around this issue I create 720p version of movies over a curtain size so remote users can at least stream those in the event our internet connection is too small.
I tend to sync movies to my 8" tablet to take away with me when traveling and it dawned on me that rather then using the 1080p version why not select the 720p version and save time and space as on an 8" screen I won’t see the difference and I can take more films with me; however there is no way to select the 720p version. If I pick a quality setting as close to the 720p movie as I can, the PMS transcodes the 1080p (which takes hours) even though there is a version sat ready to go.
There is an option to play the alternative 720p version, so it must be a simple tweak to the code to allow the user to pick which version to sync? However I say that from a none coders point of view…lol.
