[Crash - Nightly] - 1.15.3.876, 1.15.4.919, 1.15.4.994, 1.15.8.1198 and 1.16.1.1291- Windows Plex PMS - Plex Media Scanner has stopped working

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports has been empty, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs has had logs. Sorry for any confusion. I will follow your steps though next crash thanks.

FYI. I was able to narrow down this issue to my DTS music soundtracks.

They fail in the scanner and also in the web player.

Same thing again on 1.15.8.1198 too. Am I being punished for still using Windows 7 x64 Professional? I rolled back again to 1.15.2.793.

Windows Application Log: App Crash on Plex Media Scanner.exe

Thanks,
Scott

Attempted 1.16.1.1291, but still getting Plex Media Scanner.exe crash during overnight media scanning maintenance task. I am rolling back each time to 1.15.2.793 each time to get back to non-crashing nightly maintenance media scanning. But I just received an email that I’m required to upgrade to keep using premium music libraries. So how does this get resolved?

Scanner crashes when processing dts files has been fixed in Plex Media Server 1.16.2.1297 which has just been released as beta

See release notes

  • The scanner or transcoder could crash when processing files containing big-endian DTS audio streams (#10135)

Thank you, sa2000. I will go try it now.

It worked. No overnight crash of Plex Media Scanner.exe. I have had to use 1.15.2.793 since April because any Windows PMS server updates after that would crash on the Plex media scanner with every nights maintenance. Well, it appears to be fixed now with the 1.16.2.1297 July 2 PMS Plex Pass Beta.

So my Plex was working just fine until 1.16.2.1297, now it crashes several times a day. Also suddenly my server is not “powerful” enough to run a remote stream and a local. The only change was the new Plex version. My plex has become unusable.
