Crash When Choosing "Watch Version" On Android Mobile Plex Player

Server Version#: 1.43.0.10492
Player Version#: 2026.3.0 (971049968)

I am using the Plex player on a Samsung Galaxy s22+ smartphone running Android version 16. The server is a Synology DS920+. My wife has the same model smartphone and is also seeing the same issue.

Steps to reproduce (using Plex player on android phone):

  1. Choose a TV episode that has multiple versions of the same episode. For example:

star-trek-s01e01-the-man-trap-enhanced.mkv

star-trek-s01e01-the-man-trap-original.mkv

or

friends-s05e01-the-one-after-ross-says-rachel.mkv

friends-s05e01-the-one-after-ross-says-rachel-japanese.mkv

  1. From the episode details screen, tap on the “More” button. The “More Actions” panel appears.
  2. Tap on “Watch Version”. Plex immediately quits/crashes.

I am unable to get the “Watch Version” selection to work no matter what type of files are available to choose on the server. This problem does not occur using the Plex Web player on my desktop PC or on the Plex player on my NVIDIA Shield.

Thanks for the acknowledgement, BigWheel! I am happy to provide any additional information or perform any testing you might need to resolve the issue.

Same for movies. Pixel 9a. It’s been like that for a few days or weeks after the latest or previous update. (Can’t remember.)

Latest update (2026.4.1) did not fix.
Would be super helpful to have updates or an estimated timeline on this one. As I have multiple versions (4k + streamable) for virtually all of my modern movies, it’s basically made my entire movie library inaccessible if I’m not at home. Clicking Play always tries to play/transcode the 4k version, even though I’m on an Android phone, remote from my server. :sob:

I was hopeful when I saw the update, but sure enough no dice :frowning:

Just chiming in that the crash also happens for me on two different Android devices, both on 2026.4.1 and Android 16. Pixel 9 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE. Works just fine on the two iOS devices I tested, both on 2026.4.1.

Still crashing for me on 2026.5.0. We’re approaching a month with no fix - let’s get on this one Plex.

Bug report shows this should be fixed in 2026.6.0
