Create a new Organization Category: TOPICS (i.e. WWII, Serial Killers...)

I currently have more than 400 different Topics (WWII, Serial Killers, Dogs, Climate Change, Folk Horror, etc) under the category Collections mixed with hundreds of different sagas, trilogies and other movie collections. To get that mess ordered, I have the sagas and trilogies title name order starting by zz, to put them at the end of the list, after all the topics. But, it’s not very intuitive to find a saga when all of them are under the Z label.

So, would it be possible to create this new category “Topic” with this purpose? In this manner, when you select “Movies” you can choose among, “Recommended”, “Library”, “Collections", “Topics” and “Categories”.

Thank you!

I think there’s two existing feature suggestions which address what you’re looking for:

  1. Option to import or manually manage “keywords” as additional organizational element → Import TMDB Keywords into Tags section
  2. Option to create sub-categories / sub-genres → PLEX Desperately NEEDS Sub-Categories (Sub-Genre's)

Please comment/vote in those threads in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.

Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion, I’ll close this as a duplicate.

First of all, thanks for your kind and quick reply and comments.

I appreciate that there are other suggestions that could be related to what I’m looking for but, honestly, I think that I’m asking for something different to those sub.categories or nested categories. I am asking for the possibility of classifying into different (and separate) groups, all the sagas, trilogies and collections clearly related (Alien, Terminator, Robocop, Dark Knight…) from topics or themes more generics (WWII, vampires, screwball comedies, pirates…), not appearing all mixed under the heading Collections.

I hope you can see that what I’m asking for, at least as I see, is not covered under the current suggestions.

Kind regards.

Understood.

My point was more to understand where those „topics“ should come from (e.g. importing/applying certain „keywords“ as they’re available on IMDB), or it this is simply a question of granularity (further breaking down categories/genres → in which case those topics would show up among the other genres in thr categories tab).

Just having a new tab leaves some more questions.

If all you want is a separation of those manually maintained (or smart) collections, there’s another suggestion for that. → Sections in Collections // mod: collections tab sections

There‘s also a more generic request to give users an option to add more „categories“ as tabs (e.g. for cast/crew, production country…). If your topics are based on data (e.g. the above mentioned „keyword“), this could be applied for your use case. → Add Additional Tabs

Hi Tom. Ok, both suggestions could be fine for what I’d like, being “Sections in Collections // mod: collections tab sections” probably closer to my suggestion. The other, “Add Additional Tabs” could also be fine.

I will vote for both of them, following their feed back. And I agree if you delete my suggestion since it could be similar to or covered by those others.

Thanks!
