Create the ability to query the Plex database and create a report

Hi Plex,

How about adding the ability to query and build a report out of the media library database?

I think there was an option to use a plug-in previously by a third party when it was still supported. That’s gone now since plug-ins are no longer supported in Plex.

The purpose of this request is to allow Plex users to manage their libraries.

My use case.

Start with a web page that displays a list of all Plex data columns.
Like in Excel, each data columns can be:

  • Hidden
  • Filtered
  • Sorted

For example, I selected only the following columns to display:
Movie Title, Year Released, Video, Audio.

In the Video column, the data I usually see are
1080p (HEVC 10)
480p (H.264)

I should be able to click the column header “Video” just like Excel and select a filter to display only 480p (H.264).

The list will be updated and display only Movies with 480p (H.264) Video resolution.

Here’s an example of the result list (Sorry, no ability to paste the image in this forum so I can show the actual Excel screenshots)

Movie Title Year Released Video Audio
Some Movie Name 3 2017 480p (H.264) English (AC3 5.1)
Some Movie Name 5 2019 480p (H.264) English (DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Some Movie Name 6 2020 480p (H.264) English (DTS-HD MA 5.1)

Finally, have the ability to save/export the result list as a CSV into my PC.

This will be a great feature if you can add it.

Thanks!

Plugin still works, and is named ExportTools

Creating a front end to view/edit the database would be a full project in itself.

If you’re familiar enough with SQLite to want to do this, you’d get better performance by using a dedicated SQLite editor. Having Plex recreate the wheel would be a huge task.

Also…
As for the basics of your suggestion you can already do that using Plex Web using list view and custom filters – at least to some extent.

Wow! This will do. I didn’t know about this. Thank you so much!

Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you Dane22!

I appreciate all the options you shared with me. I will look it up.
All the best!

I just tried this tom80H and it worked great!
I wish they would add one more data column – “Audio.”
I was trying to list media in my library that have 5.1 audio.
I hope Plex will include it then I am all good to go.
Thanks again!
