Is there any way that I can create a Library from a filter? I currently have all my movies in one folder and would love to be able to create “LIBRARIES” based on filters for personal use and to share with friends. i.e. I want to filter my library to all G & PG Rated content or what ever and then create a library Called “Kids movies” to which i can then allow or deny access to people i have shared my server with? The same with any other type of filter I could create (action, Thriller, Animation, Drama, etc) I want to accomplish this without having to move all my movies into separate folders (many movies would be in multiple folders and that is a waste of space) as i have a good sized collection. This is not the same as parental control (and this could actually be used instead of or in conjunction with the parental control in the user section. They could either select the Library they want to allow the kids to watch or use existing feature). This will also automatically update (or I can do a manual re-scan of the LIBRARIES) Libraries when a new movies is added that meets the Filtered criteria for any library created this way.
If not I would love to see this as a feature… how do I request it?

You can have all your movies in one folder if you wanted to.
as for sharing…
filter your items, select all and then click edit – add a label for this selection (Sharing > Label). When sharing this library with a friend, you can limit his access to this Label.
same with age restrictions… when sharing, define the the age tags allowed for this user.
Thanks I will look into that. BTW I do have a PLEX Pass So I will check that out.
The one draw back from reading that is updating when new movies are added. I will have to recreate the filter every time I add a movie and then add a label to it.
no… if you added new filters you just need to decide which sharing labels you want to add.
the filter stuff was more or less a means to spare you the effort of doing this for all of your existing movies one by one
Ah thanks so then just add a label / Labels to movies as I add them after then. Can I bulk add that labels or have to do it one movie at a time? Thx.
Still think being able to create Library from Filter would be great but this will work pretty good I think I will try it out. Thanks.

How does this allow me to put all Thriller movies into one Library for myself and to Share???
Labels.
So I can Create a Library based on label(s) and see it as a library and share like a normal library without restricting the ability to share other things with same friend?
you don’t need to create separate libraries.
for yourself… just filter by Genre…
for your friends… assign a label for the movies you want to share (could be Friend1 or Movies for Friends). No need to do this per genre etc. – they will be able to filter by Genre etc. based on what is shared with them.

That is beyond my understanding/explaining of content ratings/labels. I’m sure someone can chime in and give better details on how it’s done.
if you feel you MUST HAVE all those separate libraries and the same movies assigned to multiple libraries that way… somebody recently explained a trick they were using:
create different folders in your file system, e.g. ... > Movies > Action Movies ... > Movies > Kids Movies ...
create the different libraries you want and assign each folder to 1 library, e.g. Library: Action Movies --> Folder: Action Movies Library: Kids Movies --> Folder: Kids Movies ...
and have 1 Movies library to watch them all, e.g. Library: Movies ... --> Folder: Action Movies ... --> Folder: Kids Movies
Alternative… just assign the folder ...> Movies to the Movies library (the movies scanner is more forgiving than the one for tv shows).
This way you can assign all the libraries you want to your friends. Still… feels like turning your server to a dump – but maybe that’s just me and my view (don’t want to push that on you).

That is exactly what I want to avoid doing. I am trying to not have to move everything to separate folders. The software already knows what category everything is. I just want the software to let me put them in different libraries that I can use myself and also share.
I know how to do all the sorting in the user app but my users (family members, parents etc) just want to watch movies and have asked if I can break it into categories I am sure I am not the only one that has this problem (I could be wrong though. LOL).
my take with members of my family who aren’t particularly into technology… give them some credit and try to explain how it works. if you keep finding workarounds and apparent short-cuts, this will get more and more complicated as they get familiar with some things (which might not work correctly because of the earlier tinkering). you don’t have to go all the way… just show them how to filter
OH I have tried but as mentioned some devices don’t sort / filter as well as others or even offer the filter they want to use. And some say yeah but it would be so much easier if you could just group them by type of movie. So I am just looking for a simple way to do it that will allow me to share with them without restricting and also not having to have all my movies in different folder to give me a nightmare to maintain. LOL. I hear you and trust me and I have tried to show them but they want the easy way. I don’t blame them. I just figured there would be an easy way by now with PLEX being so popular and being out so long and such a great program. Thanks again for trying to help me out.
