I would like to see a way to create a Library from a filter. I currently have all my movies in one folder and would love to be able to create “LIBRARIES” based on filters for personal use and to share with friends. i.e. I want to filter my library to all Action Rated content and then create a library Called “Action movies” to which i can then allow or deny access to people i have shared my server with. I want to be able to do this with any type filtered content like genre, Film Ratings, or anything else I filter. I want to accomplish this without having to move all my movies into separate folders (many movies would be in multiple folders and that is a waste of space) as I have a good sized collection. This is not the same as parental control (and this could actually be used instead of or in conjunction with the parental control in the user section. They could either select the Library they want to allow the kids to watch or use existing feature). This would also automatically update (or I can do a manual re-scan of the LIBRARIES based on Filters) Libraries when a new movies is added that meets the Filtered criteria for any library created this way.
please don’t… as per your original post: I believe you misinterpreted the function of a library. you con’t need segregated libraries for individual genres etc. (what happens e.g. if your movie has multiple categories?). Just keep them in 1 library and use e.g. filters to structure them as they are.
as for sharing… – again… re-read your original post. I mean no offense… in German we have a word for what you try to do – we call that “verschlimmbessern” (improving something to the worse). All the functionality you’re asking for is there. you just have to use it instead of twisting it to a new mode that it hasn’t been designed for.

I don’t “need” Segregated Libraries for individual genres (or what ever filter I choose) but I would be nice to be able to do it and share it with friends. If it has multiple categories it will show up in multiple Filters and possibly multiple “Libraries” but still only one instance on my server. So i am OK with that.
I don’t want to have to break down by folder on my server manually to do something that a filter can easily do, I am just asking to be able to save that filter as a “Library” or what ever you want to call it so I can just click on it to chose those movies i filtered by without having to filter or select a filter all the time. Also when adding movies they would just go to the filtered “Library” automatically or with a simple scan.
The main reason I want this is because I have friends and family across all different devices that filter / sort different options etc. Also all my friends / family have asked me to break down this way. If I do this by label then they can only see what is labeled and shared and I want them to have full access and have access to the filtered “Libraries” like they requested.
I am not trying to restrict access to anybody they all have full access to all my movies and TV shows I am just trying to make it easier for them to find the movies they want by having them grouped and shared with them. They all use different clients and some clients have much less sorting options. Also many of the friends and family don’t want to be bothered try to sort etc they just want to click on type / genre or how ever I filter them and select a movie with out having to scroll through all the movies.
I am sure I am not the only one that would like this and I really fail to see how making something easy to do is “verschlimmbessern” (improving something to the worse).
I appreciate the help / advice you gave me in the above link but it will not do what I want. The whole point is to make it easier for me or anybody else that wants to do this. If you don’t want to do it that is OK nobody is forced to use all the features.
