Csutomisation of user's screens

Not sure if this is client, server or both so asking here.

I’ve tried to customise users interface screens but it’s not doing what I expect or want. Two questions:

  1. Is it possible to customise a user’s primary screen for a library (i.e. the recommended screen that comes up when a user clicks on a library from the left hand menu)? Note: I know the home screen can be customised but I’m after the others as well.

  2. Having customised a home screen for a user I was surprised that switching to a different player (for a different output device) did not seem to carry over the customisations. i.e. I changed it for the web interface but the apps on the TV (Samsung) and the Firestick were exactly the same. Yes I logged out and in from the server and even rebooted the devices when that didn’t work. Same result.

Thanks.

Background for those interested -

We use Plex primarily for local media. Much of it is historical broadcast or film, either recorded or Ripped DVD’s/ BluRay because it’s easier to find and watch that way and some home grown content.

We’ve already got 3 other streaming services so it will be a while (if ever) before we use Plex’s streaming services other than perhaps some of their US news feeds (We’re UK based).

As a result many of the “recently added” categories that appear on the home screen and the recently released, recently aired etc. are basically meaningless to us, add multiple icons for the same thing which look the same. At best they simply clutter the screen but they have also led to issues where those not quite savvy with the interface have selected a recently aired episode of say a 10 season show and the last viewed goes completely cockeyed .

I’ve also got some 80 year olds who are perfectly happy with simple but really can’t get on with the ever expanding list of things on the home screen. I need to get them back to watching the shows rather than wasting their time looking for them.

As a result I just want to get back to a simple interface for home and individual libraries that provides:

  1. A-Z or genre etc. with search
  2. On Deck
  3. Continue watching.

I can’t find a way to simplify the interface to achieve this.

I want to be able to set this once for each user but have all devices use it so that the experience is consistent for a user no matter which screen they are using in the house.

no

that is correct each device requires a different customization at this time. We are experimenting with the web app currently were you can sync that players settings with other web app instances but that is not in other apps at this time. I do not have an ETA when it will be.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate the quick response even if it’s not what I wanted to hear.

  1. Bu**er! this was the really important one. I know lots of people want to see everything and be told what they should ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H might like to watch. Not in our house unfortunately.
  2. Ah well, even if the pipeline is to the Russian Steppes, it will arrive at some point but without 1, won’t help too much anyway.

…on the plus side I’ll be junking the firestick soon when the primary TV gets replace with a new Samsung. At last I’ll be able to play all the files on the main screen! (Firestick app unfortunately doesn’t seem to want to play a few PAL formats, they all seem to run double speed with no sound.)

I might be unclear on what you are trying too accomplish but if they click on Library at the top if the library it will be the a-z list of shows. and it will stay that way unless they change it back to recommended
