Curious about bitrate

I have a movie file (MP4 container). If I click get info it tells me the file has a bitrate of 2268kbps, yet when I’m playing the file across my local network (from a browser on a Windows PC), the status page shows it as direct play at 7Mbps. Just trying to understand why these are different.

FYI, my PMS is running on Ubuntu desktop (wifi connection) and the Windows PC is connected to the network via wifi as well.

The OP mentions direct play so there is no HLS overhead nor the 1.5 factor. This difference is likely the difference between average bitrate and peak. What you see in the info is the average bitrate but Plex looks at the peak bitrate when determining how much network bandwidth to allocate to the playback.
