Current development of Plex.....

First of all hello together and thanks for the last 4 years.

However, I have to get rid of my frustration.

I haven’t been able to update the server for more than 9 months now. This is due to the various apps that my users use, which are not able to handle and have various errors.

I can’t understand why you keep adding new features that can’t be used in more than half of the apps, or probably never will be.

I don’t think that I and my users have many requirements. I wish for nothing more than that all 20 users can play my files without big problems, they are all still locally stored, so no cloud stuff or live TV or anything else new what has been added in the last 1-2 years, only because of this it fails more and more often. I still use the server version 1.6.1 (Release April 2017) because at first the Samsung App (2010-2015) made problems and when that worked after several months and I wanted to change, the add-on for Kodi didn’t work anymore. Also here only error messages. The problems are known according to the forums and they seem to be working on them. What’s taking so long? In the meantime, 41!!! server updates. None of them I was able to use, so I couldn’t use many new features. In addition, I tried to use other apps and hardware with the users, but everything failed. On the Android. TV boxes, the Android app does not work (no sound), and this is supposed to be one of the apps that has the most users and is updated very often, but in spite of more than 40 messages (which I found in the forums) there is simply nothing to do about it, they prefer to build new features that you would rather see in the category “nice to have” but not necessarily necessary.

You offer an incredible amount of apps on a lot of different hardware, but what use is this to me if there are problems in more than 50% of the cases? Wouldn’t it make sense to publish server updates only when the apps can actually play them?
Or how about 1-2 programmers from the server team supporting the guys + girls in the apps, so that these updates would not take months but weeks or in the best case days.

In addition, more than 2 years ago, the administrator has been asked for more setting options. Very little has happened in this respect. Is it really so hard to implement this that as an admin I can make the settings individually for all of them? Most users are not so passionate about technology and often overwhelmed with the simplest settings. I had to drive for 2 hours because he couldn’t do it. For me these are settings of a few minutes, but others understand only the station. For me, this has not really been solved in a customer-friendly way.

I would be happy if you would think back to the original functions and optimize them for the administrators instead of like current features which only a fraction of the users need still want to implement. When I see what some of the features of the last few months have had for feedback in the forum and what kind of attitude things have, then something seems to go wrong in the planning. But from a marketing point of view it seems to be better to offer as many platforms and features as possible. Whether you are customer-friendly or even work at all seems to be irrelevant. For me, this is a poor development in recent months.

I would be very happy if you would comment on my mail and comment once. Maybe I have been completely misunderstanding the construct Plex for more than 4 years and I should have chosen a different platform for my requirements, although I’m pretty sure it’s not.

Sorry for my rather modest English. Unfortunately, this is not my strong point :frowning:

It’s a pity that neither a moderator nor a programmer gives an opinion here.
Somehow nobody seems to care that different apps don’t work with the new server versions and you just leave the users hanging. When I look at the different forums, I am not alone and everyone tries to bridge it somehow but the current support is definitely not customer-friendly. One is deported to the competition, so to speak. Of course, you are welcome to take the money for the plexpasses of the 20 users beforehand.

Plex’ roadmap is a trainwreck! I’ve never ever seen a SW-company f*** up so badly.

Bugs stay open for month and sometimes even years. Functionality gets advertised on the webpage, that doesn’t work and never did properly. And despite of all of this we get tons of new features that nobody needs. … all while the beloved leadership only shows interest in their pet-projects but not in the feedback they get from their core-users.

There is absolutely no logic and common sense any more in Plex.
