Hi, as a long time Plex lifetime pass user, simply because I loved it, I am continually and increasingly irritated by the fact that it persistently does not work when I sit down to relax and watch my media. Why is that? I have a M1 Mac mini with the latest versions of everything, but I am recently hit by problems. While I understand the fact that Plex must enhance revenue, I begrudge being directed to their streaming channels at the expense of my media, while not extravagant, some 900 movies, plus TV series and music, just struggles to play. I sit down at the end of the day to relax, watch what I want, when I want, I don’t want to have to re-engage my mind to deal with server issues. I have in the past benefited from the excellent advice found on this forum and never usually post as I don’t have ,much to add, but why doesn’t Plex just work? Why do I approach the evening with anticipation, followed quickly by frustration, anger, unless I switch to revenue enhancing Plex streaming, which works incredibly well. If this is a move away from Plex being able to stream personal media, please just say, rather than it be a case of gradualism and a war of attrition. I am sure that many will have technical comments and do you realise what’s involved, but when it just persistently doesn’t work as it should, it becomes a pain. Its lovely to look at, but when you click, its a disappointment.
100%! They are making it more work than it is worth. Every update screws it up more. They are trying to squeeze every penny out of it and I wonder what kickbacks they are getting and/or deals they have for these new setups and interfaces. I am tired of being forced into CRAP! I paid for something, like everyone else, and I WANT A LESS Bells and Whistles interface for something that works when I or a family member go to use it! How many customers I sent to Plex and now they come to me asking can I help them fix their Server because it just keeps not working or why can’t they watch my server today. Well that’s because EVERY F’ing Day since the last update, I have to play with it to get it working, I want a Gui from 2 Years ago, I paid for a product and THIS IS NOT IT! I don’t care how much you all love your tweaks and new setups in the Management. I want what I paid for and so do many others. I propose a simpler version is optional because if not, I need your legal info and anyone else who feels the same, message me please and comment here because I have had enough! These clients work like crap when they do work too! You’ve been trying to get us off the Web Interface but the “Theater” build has LOW VOLUME that cannot be BOOSTED & the newest one has no skip fwd or back for 10/30 secs, ONLY NEXT FILE or BACK to Last File. I’m getting calls from every family member about what is wrong and when it can be fixed and VERY TIME I think I fixed it, it works for a day but always screws itself back up! I have a GREEN LIGHT, It is AVAILABLE To REMOTE LOCATIONS But we keep getting " Something went wrong" or some BS like that. I am sick of it! Give us what we paid for and stop forcing people to use every change you decide we need.
That’s an idea, as a paid user, allow plex pass users to have a good quality core product, that works well with your own media, like a Plexamp for videos.
I understand your stance, there is no native apple silicon app as yet. I believe that is close to release, which has had many delays due to the sheer amount of dependences.
I’m still on Intel mac with big Sur and can say my Plex network works well, contra to many reports of Apple Silicon.
My question to yourself and Turfking8, are you on a Lifetime plan? If so I can imagine how many are on Pass lifetime due to value. Now look at it from a Plex perspective, eventually revenue dries up with a subscription saturation aspect. So if a company needs to grow or increase profit to cover inflationary pressures, Company overheads, development, hard decisions are needed.
Now back to reality, has anyone noticed the cost of living has increased dramatically in 2021 -2022. I guess in this case not so much. Companies are no different, so less crying please, it is a real problem.
Hi, thanks for the reply. As I said before, I have no problem with revenue enhancement, but not at the expense of the core product, if that doesn’t work, then the foundation begins to weaken, with obvious consequences. If Plex is moving in effect to VOD, pay per view, either via adverts or a subscription model, that doesn’t work for me. As a longtime lifetime plex pass user, who has helped plex get to this stage, I am offering my opinion as to what they can do to underpin their continued growth. Offer a product that works without having to take out a subscription to technical support each time you want to watch a movie
If I were to get a price increase say at Sams club or Costco where I pay a subscription for access to shop, they won’t just immediately pull food products or home essentials JUST because of inflation. Sure, prices might rise but they literally won’t just abruptly stop carrying essentials like bread. Bread is still bread. Eggs are still eggs.
Maybe other featured items from departments might be cut but not their food departments, even small businesses need these core products and or services.
The same can be said about how Plex is currently NOT running their business as those mentioned above. They are adding a car dealership, insurance, or anything else that might just break or burry the core product and have it deteriorate. It will become unstable which will cause the demise of its existence.
Essentially all Plex is good for now is tv show, movies, and well, PlexAmp is saving the music experience but yeah, that’s about it.

You claim that Plex needs to worry about inflation but yet prior to Covid and the inflation, Plex went on to do work on all these unnecessary “FUN” projects with both our money AND VC investment money. They should have ALWAYS but slowly adding new toys and value but making sure their core infrastructure was solid all along.
I distinctly remember having a SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY attitude when new things were being introduced but now, nope. They really have lost track of their main user base.
I can go into a Sams or Costco knowing despite a price hike on membership that they will have eggs or the basic core items I will need.
Plex only has just a small fraction of features that they once had.
If you ask me, they had plenty of time to come up with legal but solid ways to manage what they needed to. And it was only recently that they added big executives on to their board to help them out with streamlining some revenue streams.
So Plex has to actually admit they were at fault for letting their misadventures taking them down a dark path. You can only go down new paths only when your core product is rock solid. Without it, you’re nothing.
Podcasts was around for FOUR YEARS but managed to suck and sit idle with importing issues of various other podcasts that were not apart of the Plex Podcasts offering but Plex devs and company decided to keep quiet and let us all sit around for 12 months and then pull the plug. Oh well.
Same thing with the Games. Those who heard about it got upset because they then had to pay a fee to a third party to access the games, but had you had your own emulators, you need to figure it all out just to get it to work, then needed to also supply yourself with a controller. It was F’n ABSURD.
I really don’t know how much more evidence is truly needed to show proof that Plex actually has had plenty of time and plenty of our money to have focused on the core of their products but they absolutely were awful in making sure they can follow through on their end. Should we all just keep giving money away for nothing,
As far as their business model, many have said to get rid of the lifetime pass but if that’s what they kept allowing, then again, I reiterate those decisions are no one’s fault but Plex’s leaderships problem, not ours.
Unrealistic reasoning
Well, then maybe their business model needs to die along with their company. They have this unrealistic approach of seeing what sticks.
Have you ever read the number of feature requests? It’s not broken, there are too many examples of subscribers knowing best that pollute the pool, does that ring a bell.
“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.
An interesting quote attributed to Lydgate & Lincoln, the latter was also attributed with “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
Quotes are like pictures, they are worth a thousand words
I wouldn’t think BETTER or STANDARD parental controls would count as a feature that would have had to be required to vote on. It really should have been a no brainer for using all their services within the Plex ecosystem, even Disney+ has had to bend in favor of adding those controls.
I also didn’t think that we all would have to vote on disabling a feature that was a forced BETA only to be told that it’s still needs work.
Is there something better than plex?
I’m getting tired of this increasingly ruined software. I’ve been using Plex since 2009, and never had this much trouble with it. My main server breaks down daily at least, and now it won’t start up at all — it freezes halfway.
If I have to nuke and start over I’m going to be furious. I have enough egregious crap in my life right now, with my second cat dying weeks after the first, rent getting jacked up, medical issues exacerbated by all the other crap, and now this.
I’m coming to hate Plex, Plex staff, and Plex stans.
Honestly, I don’t know. I’m going to give Jellyfin a try, and retry Emby. Kodi isn’t useful because of the bans on apps.
I completely understand, I have no music or videos for some weeks now. I will try the ones you suggested. I don’t want to buy other software, as a lifetime pass “LIFETIME €119,99 EUR Pure Dedication”, seems to be one sided, where is the reciprocal dedication?
They like the money they make and hate the users.
Still not working with latest build
Just fpr emphasis, its still not working, nothing
Plex works for me. Most of the “doesnt work” threads end up because of user error.
Thanks for your understanding reply, limited, but I appreciate your efforts
