Early adopter of Plex. Supported them loved the service. My whole family enjoys streaming my entire digital library from anywhere. Or we used to. The new app is atrocious. Better looking but non functional. Remote play not working on any of my devices which I bought a Plex pass for each. Cannot get one video from my library to play remotely. They all work local. I even “upgraded” though I have several lifetime pass purchases one for each family member. Still not one video plays remotely at all. No answers from support. Anyone have any alternatives?

Yeah, it really feels like they pulled our media server application right out from under our feet and have been working behind our back to make the media server into something other than a home media server. I’ve been fearing the direction Plex is obviously headed because inevitably I’m going to have to move. I’d already be gone if Jellyfin was just a bit better. But Plex is digging hard to make itself irrelevant to home media server owners and Jellyfin will be the best we have available. Yesterday, wife’s iPhone says it can talk to the server because the Plex server software isn’t up to date. I did the update using Synology package manager for the first time. I’ve always had to update Plex manually before. Once I updated, the iPhone still says the version isn’t up to date. So I found the even more updated version. But now you have like 5 choices on which package to choose and I can’t tell what package I’m supposed to grab. Never was like this before. But even so, to get any sort of assistance with it, I’m amongst 9K posts all having similar problems with the new app. Now I didn’t realize this new app takes away movies and music. And we’re supposed to get two other apps for that. Ok, so they’re doing everything they can to the one app to use with Netflix, Prime Hulu, etc., etc., etc. And they’re moving our stuff out of the app? Seems like maybe we should be taking the hint?. I’m so distraught over this. Why didn’t they create a new app for that crap.. Ol’ Schwab has been telling us we’ll rent everything and like it, right? Plex, I truly feel you betrayed all of us home media server enthusiasts that want to own our media.

The worst part is the gaslighting. If you post saying you have a problem they will just say nothing is broken, you’re just not using it properly. Okay that could be true except I was using the app just fine a few days ago?

Just give it a month or two. Someone very high up pushed the unfinished app through. It’s not the devs’ or the mods’ fault.
