What is the current state of Plex Media Server development? I appreciate seeing some small bug fix updates, but I feel we haven’t really gotten serious love for the PMS since the streaming brain, and all it brought to the table. Granted, there have been a trickle of new options, nothing really serious has come yet. Has the PMS team been re-assigned? I remember when there were almost monthly updates with new, big, (or at least useful) features.
I think any reasonable perusal of the Plex Media Server release notes topic would show that the server is most certainly not being ignored and that there’s lots of development work going on.
Users have long requested that focus be put on fixing issues and you can see that there have been lots of fixes (and new things) in different areas of the server: DVR, transcoder, metadata, deadlocks, and much, much more. In that respect, things are kind of a Catch-22: If we focus on big, new, flashy features, people will complain about a lack of fixes for existing issues. If focus is made on fixing things, people can think that nothing new is being done. (But don’t worry, there’s cool new stuff in the works, too.)
