So frustrated with PMS

I am sure this will get deleted, but I am so frustrated with Plex.

How can something that worked so wonderfully be consistently full of issues?

Of course I deal with port exhaustion and scanning large libraries causes users to lose connection via some error (never happened for years). I know they have tried to fix this, but then new issues arouse.

Now they come out with a release to fix that, but it has issues loading the library correctly.

I also experience duplicate movies not pairing now… this was never an issue before, but I believe it has to do with different agents scanning (idk.)

And now… my live tv recording is not stable and so I am missing recordings. So frustrated. On top of all that I get plex freezing again and also something about insecure connections/allow them… then I do and plex just spins.

I really don’t even care to provide what server version I am on. I have tried all the news ones. It’s pretty irrelevant, because I don’t feel like it even matters. They still can’t get plex to work like it once use to?

I have been with Plex for nearly a decade and never once had an issue until this past year. I am to the point of giving up the pass and trying out another service.

I just can’t for the life of me understand why now. I am sure there are fixes to all these issues, but it’s so overwhelming. I never had to deal with all this crap. My plex just keeps spinning ATM.

So exhausting. I can’t even get the settings to load to provide logs.

Update, I updated to the latest PMS from Aug 4th, 2020 and I had to sign out and reload plex to get it to load. I have logs if anyone even cares to look at it.

Sorry for venting… just really discouraged that I missed some recordings today.

Plex, like many other programs/services, decided man year ago to abandon customer service and true program support/development in favor of making the maximum attempt to make all the money they can at the expense of users. To put it another way once the idea entered their pointy little heads that they could make a LOT of money by adding as many “features” as possible they did exactly that allowing their previously good, maybe even great, program to bloat to the point where it has become nearly impossible to maintain.

Plex is now so huge and so encumbered with “features” that bugs creep in on a regular basis and Plex ose not realize that their nearly unrestricted growth is the very thing that is causing bugs to appear even in the root program and makes chasing them down next to impossible.

It is a tribute to the high ability of Plex’s programmers that there are not more bugs and that th core program continues to function at all.

Whenever a program grows beyond some point, that point varies with the type of program, bugs will always appear in greater and greater numbers. It is not always really Plex’s fault but it is the “fault” of supporting what appears nearly a finitely infinite number of hardware/software combinations.

Remember: “If debugging is the process of removing bugs, then programming must be the process of putting them in.” - Edger W. Dijkstra
and
Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.” Rich Cook.

That is really well-said. Very fair and thought out.

I appreciate your comments.

I sort of regret my post, because I do not like to complain. I just needed to vent a little frustration, but I have reinstalled Plex with the latest version and it seems to be okay enough ATM.

I still appreciate Plex. I imagine their programmers work tirelessly on solutions. I just felt like it’s been quite a while of constant issues popping up, but what you are saying certainly helps understand the situation. It just sucks to see things that once worked flawlessly start to have issues as new features are introduced.

I must say the Live TV function similar to Pluto is a cool addition though.

I think it’s fair to vent frustration. It’s a tough love situation. We use Plex because it’s wonderful most of the time, and because we use Plex to consume maybe most of our media at this point it’s very frustrating when something doesn’t work as expected.

My biggest frustration personally is the lack of transparency and involvement with the community here. It’s very frustrating when it seems like Plex is just not caring like in this year old thread about the lack of .ass/ssa support in Android. Nvidia SHIELD/Android app SSA/ASS format anime subtitles + transcoding problems
But it’s not always like this.

When Plex tested the new media scanner they involved their users to test it before they released it. New Plex Media Server movie scanner and agent preview
I just wish this was how Plex usually added new features. If they did maybe we wouldn’t see hundreds of threads of people complaining about how the new music scanner has major flaws.

Unfortunately, this is well said and pretty much on point. Also It’s not going to get better. The streaming whatever features wil continue to grow as that’s clearly the priority. Im guessing the ultimate goal is to have a player that’s really a one stop app for playing whatever from whatever service with less emphasis on the server but that’s only a guess.

It is what it is, not much we can do.

PLEX tries to be all things to everyone, which is the biggest mistake they could’ve ever made.

Remember when PLEX was a tool for managing and playing your movie and music libraries? Yeah, me too.

Plex just froze for me for a second night in a row.

Here are some more logs to check since yesterday…

So freaking frustrating, it’s ridiculous. I almost want to reset my entire PC and start new to see if that somehow helps… but that’s a huge process.

FML. I was trying to be nice about it and thinking the newest version may help, but nope.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-08-06_22-09-32.zip (5.9 MB)

Similar to Pluto? That crap is Pluto TV. Just like a Samsung TV having live tv built-in, is just Pluto rebranded.

Create a full backup image of your computer. You go through all the work manually installing everything back and boom FREEZES.

updated to the latest plex today, 8/28th and now not everybody can even access my server remotely.

i can’t even access it.

so frustrating… and i see plex pass is on sale today.
