Custom scanner to pick up media stubs .disc files. (offline, physical media)

Plex is great, i'll get that out of the way. 

 

I have a large amount of offline content (physical discs), i was able to get them to show in xbmc by adding directories that contained .disc files. I am interested in porting this over to plex, or enabling it.

Has anyone attempted this before, is there any interest in it ?

 

I am a noob when it comes to plex so sorry if i am stepping on toes, or shouting in the wrong place. 

 

Any advice would be great, i will follow the custom scanner pinned post over the weekend, and see what i can get working. if at all.

so i have the first part of this working, i have the files being picked up by the scanner.  by editing the following files:

/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-ins/LocalMedia.bundle/Contents/Code/config.py /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Plug-ins/LocalMedia.bundle/Contents/Code/config.py

 /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-ins/Scanners.bundle/Contents/Resources/Common/VideoFiles.py /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Plug-ins/Scanners.bundle/Contents/Resources/Common/VideoFiles.py

Next step to get media analyser to work sensibly with disc files.

I know this is an old thread, but as a user that is looking to migrate from KODI to Plex on a few devices, this is something that is sorely missed. Are there any plans to do something like this?

my scanner and agents work with zero size files and support multi eps showing as individual eps (therefore non existing files) so could be used as a basis. Are you any good in python?

you could already rename them with a supported video extension to have them showing in plex
Without specifying if it’s for series or movies, it’s difficult to answer more specifically, as rhe scanner is different

revisiting this ages-old thread.

was there ever any development or workaround to create a “media stub” or otherwise indicate that the title is “on the shelf” and not “on the server”?
