PlexKodiConnect: Kodi keeps scanning non-plex media & needing general guidance

Let me start by saying that I saw the other person with a similar problem, but their issue was with the music library and that is not something I have enabled.

My setup is probably not the norm, but I have set up my htpc to run openelec. I use an addon called Plex Media Server by escalade and hugepants on my htpc which is my plex server. I did this because I like using plex and its web interface to manage metadata for specific movies and tv shows, but I let kodi handle all of my other movies and tv shows. Both the plex managed and kodi managed files are on the same hard drive. I was using plexbmc and the amber skin to watch those specific files via kodi, but I like the idea of using any skin I want and having the plex media visible without a special option.

Today I installed PlexKodiConnect and selected Addon paths. I’m not sure if this was the correct choice given that kodi and plex are on the same machine and not communicating over the network, this might be the source of my issues. The Plex media intergrated into the kodi library perfectly, however, the movies and tv shows that were already in the kodi library rescan every 30 seconds or so and I am unsure why.

I also wanted to ask if there was an easier way to set up everything. Seeing how everything is on the same pc, It seems like there should a different way to configure PlexKodiConnect to access those files directly, instead of going through the server and sending it back to kodi. I’m an amateur at this stuff, so I really appreciate any help anyone could send my way!

I seemed to have solved the scanning issue. I had automatic movie sets enabled and once I turned that feature off in the kodi settings the problem stopped. I’m not sure why that was causing the scanning, or if it even was the source of the problem. I tried removing all of my media and rebuilding my library multiple times in multiple different orders, but the problem persisted until I shut off movie sets.

Another update:
The problem came about again after a while, so it had nothing to do with movie sets I guess. After watching the scan notification and trying to pinpoint what movie was causing the error, I found that a dvd rip I had on my hard drive (video_ts file) was being identified strangely. I don’t know what the PKC addon had to do with it, but after I installed it, that particular file began having a lot of problems with the scraper. Prior to installing PKC the file was identified properly along with the rest of my files, but after installation, the scraper seems to not be able to identify it correctly and put itself into a loop of sorts also missing a handful of other movies that were previously scrapped no problem. I don’t know if that file was the source of the problem or just something that further added to the issue because even after I converted the file to an iso and rescanned the library it still had issues and I had to manually input information for about ten movies. I have now just set my kodi libraries to never update so that it would stop getting back into that loop.

I’m not sure what PKC has to do with already established media in kodi libraries but for some reason it threw a real wrench into mine. I am unaware if anyone else has had a similar issue but any information would help.
